• OOB (only just) FULL MOON IN LEO 25 JANUARY 2024

  • Full Moon in LeoOOB (only just) FULL MOON IN LEO

There will be an OOB Full Moon at 05°14’ on the sign of Leo (antiscion 24°46’ Taurus). The Moon is only just OOB and will re-enter bounds within a few hours.

Leo is a Fixed, Fire sign. In traditional astrology Leo governs the 5th house, so this Full Moon operates on the 5th-11th house axis (Leo-Aquarius): the things we create for our own personal satisfaction (including our children) vs our group efforts, the artist vs the scientist, the autocrat vs the democrat etc.

Moon is separating from an opposition to Pluto, newly arrived in Aquarius only a few days ago. Sun is also separating from a conjunction to Pluto. In the days or hours preceding the Full Moon there might have been a battle of wills between head and heart on a personal level or leaders /dictators and the people if we think more on the mundane level. This is because the Sun-Pluto conjunction is the last one of the series (the first conjunction of this cycle was on 21 December 2008) and the next one will be on the 27 February 2254! Since both planets were on the “all-or-nothing” anaretic degree we had/have to expect a real show of power from the plutocrats around the world. The conjunction Sun-Pluto then took place again 22 minutes later for the first time in the sign of Aquarius bringing in a new cycle and opening up the scene to hopefully a more equalitarian mood over the forthcoming years even though the initial period could be really bumpy.

Furthermore, the Moon is c//Mars, Mercury, Pluto and Venus! Just to throw out some thoughts on this: there could be an intense interchange (Moon c//Venus) as old grudges surface (Moon c// Mercury) and excitability (Moon c// Mars) and desire for control as an over-possessiveness (Moon c// Pluto) takes hold. Or, overly upsetting news (Moon c//Mercury) causes quarrels (Moon c//Venus) and profound emotions (Moon c//Pluto) that get completely out of control (Moon c// Mars).

Moon opposite Sun forms the base of a Fixed T-square formation with Jupiter as apex. No-one wants to renounce material comforts or financial gains but the close presence of Pluto to the base of the T-square could be very disruptive leading to serious disputes and even turmoil between the leaders and the people of some countries.

Sun is disposed by Saturn in Pisces which is also quincunx the Moon in Leo, limits and boundaries can be stretched when our emotions are on show for everyone to admire but may be hard to digest for some! Mundanely this could mean that exaggerated reactions from the people may be uncontrollable.

The Mercury-Mars conjunction in Capricorn is applying a trine aspect to Uranus in Taurus. Methodical thinking (Mercury in Cap) and carefully planned decisions (Mars in Cap) from governmental sources (Saturn) might have an unexpected (Uranus) effect on finances (Taurus). Mercury and Mars are both conjunct Fixed Star Vega (Wega) which according to V. Robson indicates among other things, double dealing (Mercury) and unpopular opinions (Mars).

Venus in Capricorn is applying a sextile aspect to dispositor Saturn in Pisces and a trine aspect to Jupiter in Taurus (Saturn is sextile dispositor Jupiter). A feel-good aspect that none-the-less keeps you with your feet on the ground and allows you to see your sentimental/financial situation with a little more clarity (Saturn in Pisces still has difficulty applying boundaries however).

The Elements in the lunation chart lean heavily towards the Earth element indicating level-headedness and a need to be practical. The Modalities have a heavy Fixed influence, no-one wants change.

Full Moons are also known to be times when things climax, when we decide that enough is enough for certain aspects of our life because we avert an intensified conflict between two major areas of our life and we need to find a way to honour both. They shine a light on the area that is “hidden” and in this case, in traditional astrology, all matters concerning the 5th house and the sign of Leo. This is certainly more evident when the Full Moon closely aspects any personal planets or angles in your chart and it also depends on the houses involved in your individual chart.

Author, Raven Kaldera, in his book “Moon Phase Astrology” calls this Full Moon

    “The Queen’s Moon”

and he encourages us to take charge of a situation or become leader for a day or failing this to do something nice for a woman who is in a position of power in public life.

Personally, I consider only the conjunction and opposition aspects (the square only if the Sun or Moon is affected in your chart) and orbs should be less than 2°.

The Sabian symbol for the Moon at 06° Leo: “A conservative old-fashioned lady is confronted by a “hippie” girl.” Indicating the need to transcend our subservience to fashion, in morals as well as in clothes.

For the Moon’s antiscion at 25° Taurus: “A vast public park.” Indicating the cultivation of natural energies for collective use and recreation.

For the Sun at 06° Aquarius: “A masked figure performs ritualistic acts in a mystery play.” Indicating the individual’s involvement in long-established patterns of activity aiming at the release of collective power.

“Don’t let someone dim your light simply because it’s shining in their eyes.” Karen Salmansohn
