  • New Moon in AquariusOOB NEW MOON IN AQUARIUS

“It was my letting go that gave me a better hold.” Chris Matakas

The New Moon will occur at 01°32’ of Aquarius (antiscion 28°28’ Scorpio), a Fixed, Air sign, this is the third in a series of four New Moons in a row at 01° of the relative monthly sign. The lunation occurs the day before Uranus, the modern ruler of Aquarius, stands motionless before its direct station, adding extra strength to the lunation itself.

By a square aspect this New Moon will activate the Solar Eclipse which took place at 02° Scorpio on the 25 October 2022, a difficult eclipse that developed over Russia and led to massive bombing of Ukraine’s infrastructures as well as Russia hinting at the possible use of a nuclear weapon in the conflict.

In my post about the eclipse last October I wrote Mars is moving very, very slowly in preparation of its retrograde station at the end of the month, it is also peregrine so lots of mental energy (not always for a good outcome) put into plans, tactics and scheming, Gemini can be ruthless since sentiments have little place in the Air signs. The quincunx Mercury-Neptune will hopefully force out the truth by exposing the lies. OOB Mars is also quincunx Pluto and the two planets are also in c// this energy really needs to be handled carefully in order to keep power struggles completely under control.”

The chart of the lunation has 5 planets in the Air element and 5 in the Fixed signs, plans for the future are in place but do we have the will/energy to implement them?

The New Moon is applying a sextile to Jupiter, recently entered in Aries and giving a boost of optimism and support as a new cycle begins. The lunation is also applying a rather wide opposition to Mars, newly turned direct in Gemini, again an energy booster at least on a mental level. Both Moon and Mars are OOB and could show signs of eccentricity and also since they are c// each other meaning that tempers could fly if the mental power is not supported strongly enough by the emotional energy. Traditional dispositor of the lunation is Saturn in a close conjunction to Venus, responsible spending or blocked social contacts are two things that come to mind. Modern dispositor Uranus is still retrograde in Taurus but only for a few hours more before its direct station and it is receiving a wide trine aspect from Mercury lending a touch of excitement to everything you put your mind to and this could also lead to planning some adventurous trips to unknown places!

New Moons are excellent moments to do a reality check, asking ourselves where we are at the present moment in time and where we would like to go, particularly regarding the matters of the house where the New Moon falls in your chart and thus set our relative intentions for the month ahead.

Whilst this New Moon might be used to release emotional attachments that restrict our freedom in some way it also reminds us that we are not alone and that by involving ourselves with others we can change our world. Another point to consider during this Moon phase might be how to strengthen your network of friends (11th house) as you reflect on your own unique talents (5th house).

Raven Kaldera in his book “Moon Phase Astrology” calls this the Father’s Son Moon. He suggests that all New Moon archetypes are children and youths and, as such, that there is a youthful quality to their emotional natures. Thus the Father’s Son represents the Golden Boy, being the father’s heir and hope. On this New Moon, Kaldera suggests that we examine our feelings about our own personal father (or mother if she was career-minded or externally-orientated instead of concentrating on the home). Or, we could look at our attitudes concerning the “Fathers of Society” and how “their” rules and regulations have or have not any value for us at this present time. However, if we are at unease with these guidelines, we might ask ourselves whether we have had or have the courage to openly disclaim them or if it pays us in some way (and which way) to follow them blindly.

The Sabian symbol for 02° Aquarius: “An unexpected thunderstorm.” Indicating the need to develop the inner security which will enable us to meet unexpected crises.

For the antiscion at 29° Scorpio: “An Indian squaw pleading to the chief for the lives of her children.” Indicating love as a principle of redemption.

“You are a piece of the puzzle of someone else’s life. You may never know where you fit, but others will fill the holes in their lives with pieces of you.” Bonnie Arbon

What are your intentions for this New Moon?
