  • Full Moon in SagittariusOOB FULL MOON IN SAGITTARIUS

facing the future with diligence and optimism…are we?

There will be a very, very OOB Full Moon (28°05’ South) at 20°39’ Sagittarius, a mutable Fire sign (antiscion 09°21’ Capricorn). The Sagittarius Moon is usually a jovial, quest-searching entity that desires, above all, truth and something to believe in. It also loves freedom and is easily motivated.

This lunation activates the Lunar Eclipse at 23°57’ Virgo which took place on the 14 March this year and the Lunar Nodes are also on that degree in this chart. I would like to remind you what Bernadette Brady wrote of this eclipse “This eclipse belongs to the Saros series 9 New North* a very physically expressive series. Since accidents and violence might be part of its effects Brady advises not to hide away but to undertake some kind physical activity keeping an eye to safety.

The Moon in Sagittarius bubbles with enthusiasm sometimes in a too self-centred way but its high moral standards are always on the search for the truth. Jupiter, the Moon’s dispositor in this lunation has just entered Cancer two days ago. A sign where the planet finds its exaltation.

Jupiter is again in a tight square aspect with Saturn, also in a new sign. The square aspect has thus changed from a Mutable square (Gemini-Pisces) to a Cardinal square (Cancer-Aries). Cardinal squares are action-oriented but Saturn is now in Fall in Aries and thus apt to act rather badly rather than in the usual “paternalistic” way whilst Jupiter is in exaltation, a little bit “over-the-top” as far as attitude is concerned. Expansion and optimism may have the better over limitation but that limitation could be very harsh and bring a lot of restlessness with it.

The Sun in Gemini is quick-witted and knowledgeable as well as being physically agile, opinions and alliances can change rapidly whilst truth has many forms. The Sun is also parallel Jupiter and both are c/parallel Pluto. There may be an increase in profound knowledge, or someone may think that they have the answers to everything. Sun is also conjunct Fixed Star Bellatrix, according to Ptolemy of the nature of Mars and Mercury and among the many meanings of this Robson also gives “riches and honour but final ruin”, “vacillating and undecided in business”. Mr. T. has his nodes at 20° Gemini so this Full Moon is also on his Lunar Nodes.

OOB Mercury, the Sun’s dispositor in this lunation, is separating from a conjunction to Jupiter which actually never became exact because Mercury entered Cancer before Jupiter and is the swifter planet of the two. Talking out of place and context come to mind.

The Full Moon forms a Grand Square with the Lunar Nodes, Sun may fall back on bad habits since South Node is ruled by Mercury and Moon may be optimistic and have faith in the future with North Node ruled by Jupiter. The Full Moon already has the opposition aspect and with the square to the nodal axis it seems like both parties (Sun and Moon) seem to know all the answers but they are pulling in opposite directions so the difficulty lies in finding some common ground in order to move forward together. Is this doable?

In fact, emotions could be expressed verbally in a less than caring way as we are forced to face reality and take responsibility for our actions. Fortunately, the Sun in Gemini knows how to talk its way out of the most tricky situations.

Full Moons are times of harvest, the climax of the lunar cycle when energy is at its topmost…and we would do well to recognize this fact…that it can’t get any better (or worse) than this regarding whatever intentions we set on the previous New Moon.

Since Full Moons occur when the Sun and Moon oppose each other it is therefore during this time that we may feel tension in regard to integrating the matters of the houses that are facing each other.

If the Full Moon aspects a natal planet then it urges us to reflect upon how we are presently using that planetary energy and how we could devise plans to act upon and thus set our intentions for the next New Moon regarding any changes we might deem necessary. Or, we may sense internally or be alerted through external happenings regarding the outcome of the intentions we set on the previous New Moon.

This Full Moon falls on the 9th-3rd axis of the zodiac wheel. It’s about wisdom vs knowledge, intuition vs reason, long vs short journeys, morality vs amorality etc. If you have planets or angles at 15-25° of the mutable signs of Sagittarius, Gemini, Virgo or Pisces then this Full Moon could have a bigger influence for you. Nevertheless, it will illuminate an area of our lives that we may have preferred to have kept hidden since the last New Moon, now is the right occasion to explore it more deeply.

Raven Kaldera, in his book “Moon Phase Astrology” calls this the Priest’s Moon, “he who has acquired knowledge through the channel of the sacred texts and traditions that he has learned and who is now ready to dedicated himself to the Truth (as he sees it).”

On this Moon he suggests “that we reflect about the traditions and beliefs we hold (religious or otherwise) and if we are able to objectively question them. If we think that we hold no fixed beliefs then maybe we could ask our friends if they think that this it true and be ready to listen carefully to their answers about ourselves.”

The Sabian symbol for the Moon at 21° Sagittarius: “A child and a dog wearing borrowed eyeglasses.” Indicating the use of imagination and make-believe in anticipating higher stages of development.

For the antiscion point at 10° Capricorn: “An albatross feeding from the hand of a sailor.” Indicating the overcoming of fear and its rewards.

For the Sun at 21° Gemini: “A tumultuous labour demonstration.” Indicating the revolutionary impact of mental concepts upon the collective emotions and desires of man.

“If there’s a single lesson that life teaches us, it’s that wishing doesn’t make it so.” Lev Grossman, The Magicians
