  • New Moon in ScorpioNEW MOON IN SCORPIO 8-9 NOVEMBER 2026

How deep are your feelings, how dark are your thoughts….

There will be a New Moon at 16°53’ Scorpio (antiscion 13°07’ Aquarius), this is the second of a series of seven new Moons at the same degree (17°) of their respective signs. Particularly worth noting are any planets or angles at 17° of any sign in your natal chart over the next months.

New Moons are the time when we are encouraged to set our intentions for the month to come.

The New Moon is applying a square aspect to its dispositor Mars which, in turn is applying a conjunction to Jupiter and South Node. Mars and Sun are in mutual reception and both are peregrine so, it seems that these two planets are eager to overcome difficulties and resume their warlike stance (Mars conjunct Jupiter) but perhaps with less success than expected (Mars conjunct South Node) and certainly without a given direction (both planets peregrine). Sun is also parallel Fixed Star Sirius, among other meanings this also denotes success in martial affairs, but will it be enough to give the Sun-Mars combo a real chance at success or will it be a chaotic mess? Moon is in fall in Scorpio, not really able to pull up much power if not of the self-absorbed, self-destructive type but it will be prone to sudden emotional reactions (Moon c-parallel Uranus R).

The Elements completely lack Earth whilst Fire, Air and Water are well-balanced but Earth is necessary and without it we could all lose touch with reality. The Modalities have six planets in the Fixed Modality, three in Cardinal and only one in Mutable, very stubborn in the way we proceed but with hardly any idea about how our actions might cause reactions.

The New Moon will be on the Scorpio/Taurus axis (two fixed signs, the first Water the second Earth) which corresponds to the 8th-2nd houses in astrology: what others value vs what I value, wanting to tear down the known to make room for new things vs wanting to maintain the status quo, what I share with others vs what I want for myself etc.

Scorpio was originally represented by a serpent, the symbol long connected to healing and transformation and so this New Moon could be about shedding our old skin as we attempt to grow.

Raven Kaldera in his book “Moon Phase Astrology” calls this New Moon in Scorpio “the Raging Moon” and during this period he suggests that “this is an excellent time to work in the shade, plumbing to the depths of our own psyche and learning to love the darker side or our soul by accepting ourselves for what we are without attempting to change”. He adds that “understanding is the point, not healing, but an understanding that leads to compassion of self.”

The Sabian symbol for the Moon at 17° Scorpio: “A woman, fecundated by her own spirit, is “great with child”.”  Indicating a total reliance upon the dictates of the God-within.

For the antiscion point at 14° Aquarius: “A train entering a tunnel.” Indicating the ability to short-cut the process of natural evolution by the exercise of will, mental skill and physical self-discipline.

“Someone I loved once gave me a box full of darkness. It took me years to understand that this too, was a gift.” Mary Oliver
