NEW MOON IN TAURUS

It’s time to set your intentions for the New Moon at 07°46’ Taurus (antiscion 22°14’ Leo). The Moon is exalted in this Venus-ruled, Fixed Earth sign.

The New Moon is the apex of a Fixed T-square having a Mars-Pluto opposition as its base. A Mars-Pluto opposition at its best often indicates a power play involving a show of strength. At its worst its full-blown violence. The Fixed signs indicate stubbornness and not wanting to budge from positions that have already been obtained. Sun and Moon, be these intended on a personal level as head and heart or on a more mundane level as leaders and people, both seem to be fixed on their relative stances although neither seem to want violence. However, the New Moon is also conjunct Fixed Star Hamal which according to Ptolemy is of the nature of Mars and Saturn and causes violence, cruelty and premeditated crime – a fitting description indeed for the times we are living in.

Venus, the dispositor of the New Moon is exalted in the sign of Pisces, separating from a conjunction to Saturn which could be a buzz-killer for any wishful thinking and illusions Venus might have entertained during the recent sextile of both planets to Uranus in Taurus, a planet which is particularly relevant in the lunation chart since it is on the degree of the lunar nodes. This may also indicate that fluctuations in the stock markets will continue particularly since Venus is c/antiscion Neptune – deception and matters being confused. The loose square from Venus to Jupiter and from Jupiter to Saturn added to Jupiter sitting on the Fixed Star Bellatrix and c// Pluto could also re-iterate the presence of financial problems and disgrace particularly since Venus rules the New Moon.

The Elements in the lunation chart are well-balanced whilst the Modalities lean towards an excess of Fixed signs – 5 planets – stubbornness and not wanting to see another point of view or solution to a problem

The New Moon falls on the 2-8th house axis  (Taurus-Scorpio) which involves matters such as security vs temptation, calm vs crisis, sex vs taboos etc. It is significant for those who have planets or angles between 04-10° of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio or Aquarius.

So, part of our intentions for this moment might involve building things (projects, relationships or whatever) to last by creating stability in that part of our lives illuminated by this New Moon. To do this we need to listen to our body and follow our heart.

Author Raven Kaldera, in his book “Moon Phase Astrology”, calls this New Moon the “Dryads Moon”, the Dryads are the quiet, shy spirits of the trees, and he states that “this Moon phase in the earthiest of the astrological signs comes forth in a form that is as close to Nature that a human can possibly be”. He suggests that on this day we should steep ourselves in Nature by going for a walk or just sitting in the garden or park when possible.

The Sabian symbol for 08° Taurus: “A sleigh on land uncovered by snow.” Indicating the value of anticipating and preparing for expectable conditions.

For the antiscion point at 23° Leo: “In a circus the bareback rider displays her dangerous skill.” Indicating the audacity and perseverance required to control and play with the powerful energies of the vital realm in human existence.
