  • New Moon In PiscesNEW MOON IN PISCES ON 19-20 FEBRUARY 2023

It’s all about seeing things as they really are.

The last of a series of four New Moons at 1° of the relative signs, this lunation will be at 01°21’ Pisces (antiscion 28°39’ Libra).

New Moons are notoriously the best moment to set fresh intentions for the month ahead. This one falls on the 12th-6th house axis (Pisces-Virgo) in traditional astrology so themes such as chaos vs order, compassion vs criticism and wholeness vs perfection come to mind.

A mutable modality Moon is always restless by nature and the Pisces Moon is also highly creative and sensitive, often with mediumistic qualities.

For the less spiritually inclined it’s still an excellent moment for reading a good book, listening to your favourite music or just day-dreaming and, why not, thinking about how those fantasies and dreams could become reality.

With only Jupiter, ruler of the lunation, in the Fire element this lunation chart seems to have little physical energy to get its feet out of the water even though the four planets in the Mutable modality indicate a penchant for change.

The New Moon is not making any Ptolomaic aspects to any other planet and looks on in a kind of happy daze.

Jupiter in Aries is in a wide separating sextile to Mercury in Aquarius and OOB Mars in Gemini with Mercury approaching a trine to Mars and a square to Uranus in Taurus. A good time for speaking your mind (Mercury trine Mars) as you look to the future with curiosity (Mercury sextile Jupiter) and move ahead with optimism (Mars sextile Jupiter) but don’t allow a mental overload to make hasty decisions for you (Mercury square Uranus). Jupiter is also c//Neptune adding to the difficulty to discern between the real and the ideal.

Venus in Pisces has just separated from a conjunction to Neptune and is now in an exact sextile to Pluto in Capricorn, both these planets are on the all-or-nothing anaretic degree as they each prepare to leave their respective signs. Day dreaming might become a real obsession for some. Venus is also conjunct the malevolent Fixed Star Scheat which, according to V. Robson indicates an evil environment or danger of imprisonment.

Raven Kaldera in his book “Moon Phase Astrology” calls this new Moon

    the “Dreamer’s Moon”.

He goes on to describe this Moon as “a reflection of Neptune’s influence on the Moon resulting in people who never quite know where all their edges are, barely able to figure out what is real from what is imaginary.” On this Moon he suggests that we use the time for (day)-dreaming since our strength at this moment is now in believing that our wishes can come true.

The Sabian symbol for 2° Pisces: “A squirrel hiding from hunters.” Indicating the individual’s need both to ensure his future subsistence and to protect himself from aggressive social elements.

For 29° Libra: “Mankind’s vast and enduring effort to reach for knowledge transferable from generation to generation.” Indicating a deep sense of participation in, and commitment to, social pressures which seek to bring to all men Truth and a greater Life.

“In dreams we enter a world that’s entirely our own.” Albus Dumbledore
