• MERCURY STATIONS RETROGRADE ON 7TH JULY 2019

  • Re-think, re-do, re-plan.

The 3-week retrograde period will begin on the 7th of July at 4°27’ Leo (antiscion 25°33’ Taurus) and end on the 1st of August at 23°58’ Cancer (antiscion 6°02’ Gemini).

In Leo, all planets want to be respected according to their nature. Mercury in Leo wants to be respected for his opinions and views and in desiring this, self-confidence often turns into bravado and presumption. Entering Cancer again where Mercury is a little out of sync being a Water sign, Cancer is far too emotional for “all-in-my-head” Mercury may mean that emotions are ruled by rationality, our poetic vein and story-telling however could reach new heights!

During the first part of this retrograde we will have the opportunity to think about in which part of life we want to shine in and be respected for our opinions and ideas (the house where Mercury is transiting, its natal position and the houses it rules in your chart) and possibly how to go about it once the retrograde period is over. In its latter part we need to figure out our emotions and put them out in a more verbal manner once the retrograde is over.

Being the ruler of both Gemini and Virgo, these are the signs usually most affected by the retrograde period. However the planet itself will be sextiling any planets in early Gemini and semi-sextiling th early degrees of those in Virgo and then sextiling and semi-sextiling the later degrees of Virgo and Gemini so I don’t consider these particularly trying aspects.

As always, the usual suggestions apply to the Mercury retrograde: great for putting “re” in front of everything, planning, but waiting for the direct station, before acting. Expecting possible delays in transport of all kinds, upheavals in the planning of appointments, electronic equipment going haywire etc. Avoiding signing contracts (where possible, but again contracts are between people so it’s a retrograde season for everyone and if its “bad” for one it may be “good” for the other party).

During its retrograde Mercury doesn’t make any aspects to the outer planets but it does conjoin Mars at 4° Leo. This meet-up could become our personal “Waterloo” if we are unable to restrain our grandeur.

    A little bit of history:

Mercury in the Greek myth is associated with Hermes and he held an amazing number of roles here; thief, storyteller (aka liar), trickster, magician, craftsman, messenger of the gods, the god of boundaries, commerce, merchants, words and language among the many. He was the only god who had permission to travel freely between the Underworld and the heights of Olympus.

Mercury is so versatile that he can take on any of the archetypes represented by the other planets too and in this way he is also good at making deals or compromises and the house placement of Mercury in your chart will show where you’re good at this also.

What are you expecting to re-do, plan or think during this retrograde?
