MERCURY ENTERS GEMINI AND GOES OOB*Mentally unhinged?
Mercury enters one of the signs that it rules on 17 May and goes OOB at 12° of the sign on the 22 May remaining in this condition until the 14 June when it will be at 17° Cancer.
Mercury is obviously in his element here, a rational and agile thinker open to new ideas and experimentations, puns and intellectual flexibility are also part of the game although Mercury is also the prankster of the zodiac and here words could be used to alter the truth in some way!
The OOB status could make this planet very versatile indeed with great curiosity and a real talent for the acquisition of knowledge or the use of knowledge to cause havoc.
A little bit of history:
Mercury in the Greek myth is associated with Hermes and he held an amazing number of roles here; thief, storyteller (aka liar), trickster, magician, craftsman, messenger of the gods, the god of boundaries, commerce, merchants, words and language among the many. He was the only god who had permission to travel freely between the Underworld and the heights of Olympus.
Mercury is so versatile that he can take on any of the archetypes represented by the other planets too and in this way he is also good at making deals or compromises and the house placement of Mercury in your chart will show where you’re good at this also.
Alan Leo’s description of Mercury from his book “The Art of Synthesis”
“A considerable portion of the correct judgement of a nativity is derived from the study of Mercury, its position, aspects and progress, the tendency of the mind being easily seen from the sign which Mercury occupies a birth.”
Mercury will make the following aspects during its stay in Gemini:
17-18 May: conjunct Uranus (01°14’ Gemini) – hurrying might cause incidents or accidents, go slow, however, out-of-the-box thinking and flexibility in all plans should also be the mantra for today. “Free speech” could also be in the cards but probably clouded in fog (sextile Neptune) and intended to be mind-blowing (trine Pluto).
18-19 May: sextile Neptune (03°46’ Aries-Gemini) – explanations and information may be blurry to say the least.
19 May: trine Pluto (05°28’ Gemini-Aquarius) for those involved with their natal chart in this transit there is a huge possibility for advancement be this in terms of authority, power, professional success and/or personal wealth but as with all harmonic aspects, you need to invest yourself in this!
22 May: sextile Saturn (11°24’ Aries-Gemini) – words and actions cause reactions, think before you talk or act.
“A reliable way of making people believe in falsehoods is frequent repetition, because familiarity is not easily distinguished from truth.” Daniel Kahneman, Thinking, Fast and Slow
Bibliography
*So, what does it mean for a planet to be OOB? When we cast an astrological chart we use a precise locality (birth place) on the earth and from this observation point we take note of the position of the planets in the sky at the time of birth and this enables us to calculate the angles that the planets form to the given locality. Another point of reference however is the celestial equator (which is the terrestrial equator elongated into space). When planets travel beyond 23°27’ either side of the celestial equator, be it North or South, they are referred to as “out of bounds”.
OOB planets can also be found in birth charts and special attention should be paid to them since they are considered important since they can bring up connections to each other which are not necessarily visible in longitude.
