In its own sign of Aries and particularly strong, Mars stations retrograde at 28°08’ Aries (antiscion 1°52’ Virgo).
There will then be 6 planets retrograde until the 12th when Jupiter stations direct.
Mars turns retrograde for approximately 80 days every two years or so and the last time the planet was retrograde in Aries was between August and October 1988 and previous to that from September to November 1973. For those who were already born on those dates what was happening in your life then?
Retrograde planets have an air of introspection about them and they certainly aren’t functioning at their best. Mars is one of the bad guys in traditional astrology and a mal-functioning Mars is not particularly good news.
During this retrograde it might seem like all our plans backfire or don’t take off in the way we expected and this could give us the idea of standing still or worse…moving backwards! So, it might be a good idea to reflect and relax during this retrograde and plan actions that we can take in the future when the planet is again forward motioned…that is if the thwarted energy doesn’t build up and lead us into a fit of nervous rage! Which of course, could damage our health if we’re not careful. We need to find a fine balance between satisfying our need to go forward whilst at the same time taking care not to get too frustrated by any set backs that may occur (and they possibly will!).
Needless to say Mars will be transiting over Saturn, Pluto and Jupiter in Capricorn for the second time during its retrograde movement so late degree Cardinal signs are advised to take into account that setbacks and hold-ups could be in the air again, as could incidents and accidents. Unfortunately, the Mars-Saturn square has an aura of broken bones about it (walk don’t run) as well as slow, steady progress or a complete standstill, the Mars-Pluto huge expenditure of power (for good or bad) and Mars-Jupiter perhaps too much energy and optimism.
The Sabian symbol for 29° Aries: “The music of the spheres.” Indicating attunement to the cosmic order.
For the antiscion at 2° Virgo: “A large white cross dominates the landscape.” Indicating the wisdom and compassion which only the experience of suffering and isolation can bring.
“It is necessary sometimes to take one step backward to take two steps forward.” Vladimir Lenin
