  • Full Moon in PiscesFULL MOON/LUNAR ECLIPSE IN PISCES

    I feel you…

The Full Moon/Lunar Eclipse will occur at 04°54’ Pisces (antiscion 25°06’ Libra).

This is the last of four Eclipses this year (2 solar and 2 lunar). Eclipses take place when the Sun, Moon and Earth find themselves closely aligned.

The lunation/eclipse makes an applying Mutable T-square aspect with a Sun-Mercury opposite Moon base and a Uranus apex. Uranus in a Mutable set-up suggests that there is a lot of difficulty focalising on a mental level long enough to accomplish lasting benefit. The resulting instability makes for restlessness when dealing with routine and the failure to manifest revolutionary insights in a tangible manner.

Sun conjunct its dispositor Mercury, remember, Virgo’s attention to detail often means that concentrating on the details doesn’t allow for looking at the big picture and often comes out as narrow-mindedness leading to prejudice. Mercury is combust (burnt by the Sun) so expect some Mercurial characteristics to remain hidden, for example perhaps not all the details will be disclosed.

Jupiter, dispositor of the lunation/eclipse is applying a trine aspect to retrograde Saturn. This aspect seems to reflect the times of the moment where people are often too self-assertive regardless of the effect this has on others since their lack of depth (of character) and seriousness are replaced with superficial pathos and over-the-top exaggerations.

The lunation/eclipse is also in a wide approaching sextile (Sun-Mercury) and trine (Moon) to OOB Mars which is also c-parallel OOB Pluto. Wanting to protect our tribe but also desiring a complete overturn of the existing social rules is not necessarily always a good idea and Venus can only be an onlooker from her strong position in Libra where she is in a wide separating opposition to Saturn R with no further Ptolemaic aspects in sight.

The Elements in the lunation chart are well-balance whilst the Modalities have four planets each in Mutable and Cardinal energy but only two in the Fixed signs perhaps allowing a little bit more of flexibility in the making of major decisions.

Although of different Saros* series, eclipses occur at similar degrees of the same sign in 19-year cycles as they move in a retrograde motion through the zodiac. Thus, they have effect on the same house polarity in your natal chart (or on any personal planets or angles in the Fixed signs).

The last Lunar Eclipse at 05° Pisces was on 28 August 2007 but of a different Saros series.

What was happening in your life then?

Bernadette Brady, an Australian astrologer, in her book “The Eagle and the Lark”, dedicates a whole chapter to the Saros* Series. She explains that the Saros Series of the present Lunar Eclipse is known as “10 South” (the same as the precedent Solar Eclipse on 12 August and, due to the nature and aspects of the planets involved (if the eclipse aspects directly any of your natal planets), She describes this eclipse as: “breaking out of a very negative situation where no hope can be seen to a more positive space containing many options. A worry affecting a person may suddenly clear. The solution will be shown by the Cosmos and needs to be taken up without too much delay.”

Whilst solar eclipses manifest as external events in our lives, lunar eclipses indicate more intimate, emotional changes which could of course still manifest as external events if the brooding that accompanies our innermost vicissitudes causes changes to our behaviour at an individual level. Such events are in fact brought about by our own thoughts and feelings.

Eclipses can be considered as a “spotlight” on the matters of the house axis where they occur in your chart (particularly so if personal planets or angles are involved in the eclipse degrees). It shines its light and brings to our attention those areas of our lives that need to be addressed for some reason. Dealing with these matters, once identified, could lead to a life-changing event in some cases. However, since events under eclipses are often unexpected and sudden it’s not always possible to prepare in advance but having a notion of the matters of the houses interested in the event could give us inkling as to where the disruption might come from.

In the Western world we tend to indulge ourselves in feeling-based activities on full Moon days but in Tibetan Buddhist monastic tradition this is a day devoted to the purification of “negative” karma during which people are encouraged to indulge less, thus creating space to contemplate the true nature of reality.

The Pisces Full Moon is connected to the 12-6th house axis and the Pisces/Virgo opposition, in short; in the 12th house our energy goes with the flow whilst in the 6th house we arrange our energy ie.: we plan life. The Pisces/Virgo opposition lends to dynamics such as chaos vs order, compassion vs criticism, all-inclusivity vs discrimination etc.

Pisces is a Mutable, Water sign and this Full Moon will have major impact on persons who have planets or angles in the early degrees of the other Mutable signs; Pisces (conjunction), Virgo (opposition) and Sagittarius and Gemini (square).

Raven Kaldera in his book “Moon Phase Astrology” describes the Full Moon in Pisces as the

    “Healer’s Moon”

since Pisces demands deeply personal service as opposed to its opposite sign Virgo who believes that the best type of service is rendered impersonally. So, on the Healer’s Moon we are invited to find ways of bringing healing to others in some way. Healing can in fact take on many forms be these physical, mental, emotional or spiritual.

The Sabian symbol for the Moon at 05° Pisces: “A church bazaar.” Indicating the value of giving a spiritual or transcendent sanction to even the most commonplace interchanges between social persons and individual needs.

For the antiscion at 26° Libra: “An eagle and a large white dove change into each other.” Indicating the interaction of the spiritual Will and of the Love principle when critical needs arise.

For the Sun at 05° Virgo: “A man becomes aware of nature spirits and normally unseen spiritual agencies.” Indicating the opening of new levels of consciousness.

“You learned to run from what you feel, and that’s why you have nightmares. To deny is to invite madness. To accept is to control.”  Megan Chance, The Spiritualist
