  • PLUTO’S DANCE IN AND OUT OF BOUNDS IN SOUTHERN DECLINATION

    Last year in August, Pluto went in and out of bounds for the first time after seventy-two years, the last time it was in and out of bounds in this manner was from February 1938 to May 1953 during the planet’s stay in Leo and it was an OOB in Northern declination.

    Over the last century several astrologers have attempted to diversify and delineate the differences between Northern and Southern declination (for more info on this please read Paul Newman’s excellent book “Declination in Astrology” published by the Wessex Astrologer UK). All seem to agree that Northern declination is more dynamic with outgoing energy that has effect on others whilst Southern declination is more stable and sensitive to incoming energies that effect oneself.

    OOB planets, no longer having the restraints of the Sun’s bounds are thus more likely to act in unconventional ways. The Leo OOB N period 1938-1953 saw the world in a turmoil due to World War II and the rise of despots such as Hitler, Stalin and Mussolini who wanted to rule the world. There was also the advent of nuclear energy in the form of the atomic bomb. Leo is a Fixed Fire sign and amongst its meaner characteristics we can mention egotistical, dictatorial and intolerant, Pluto almost always involves power plays of some kind, obsession, destruction, death and rebirth but also its better side which is generous, creative and enthusiastic.

    These next ten years will be characterised by Pluto going in and out of bounds from August 2025 to November 2035 but in the sign of Aquarius and in Southern declination. Aquarius is a more social sign and less involved with individuals so could this be the rise of a new democracy on a world-side scale giving more stability and equality between people and countries? Particularly so since Pluto is in an ongoing trine with Uranus and both are sextile Neptune. Aquarius’s traits being a Fixed Air sign can include words such as humanitarian, social, egalitarian, opinionated but also fanatical and unemotional.
