SATURN’S 5-MONTH RETROGRADE PERIOD Isn’t it time to question the warfare and aggressiveness that’s all around us?
Saturn will station retrograde at 14°45’ Aries (antiscion 15°15’ Virgo) on 26 July to station direct at 07°56’ Cancer on 10 December.
Saturn is the planet of restriction and order which rewards hard work and perseverance. Aries is known for being action-oriented (a Cardinal sign), courageous, aggressive, opinionated and impulsive. It’s hardly a wonder that Saturn finds its fall in the sign of Aries.
We’ve already seen the effects of Saturn in Aries in the form of intentional warfare and cruelty for its own sake. Now we all have the chance to ponder on whether this kind of behaviour is to be further tolerated or if we need to direct these energies into a more controlled way of laying down the rules.
At the start and at the end of each retrograde period the planet gradually slows down almost to a halt. Mainly affected by this retrograde will be those charts having planets or angles between 17-12° degrees of the Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn).
When Saturn turns retrograde it will slow down the normal speed of everyday things in order for us to be able to develop better procedures and tactics in our lives. Saturn provides us with the rules and regulations with which we guide ourselves, our sense of responsibility and our limits. Saturn defines boundaries, so what better time than its annual retrograde period to determine the possible from the impossible in our lives? Look to the house axis that this retrograde involves.
In fact, this is an excellent moment to assess and correct any commitments that you may have unrealistically taken on, a time to refine any projects or consider any responsibilities undertaken in the past and also to process and overcome any fears we might have in that sector of our chart where Saturn is transiting. Saturn retrograde gives us the opportunity to say NO to the burdens that prove too heavy for us or to address fears that have been tormenting us. So, during this period, re-assess past responsibilities without taking on any new ones and likewise postpone any possible long-term commitments that might come now until after the retrograde period is over because you might just realize that they are, in fact, too heavy for you.
The Sabian symbol for 15° Aries: “An Indian weaving a ceremonial blanket.” Indicating the projection of everyday living into the realisation of wholeness and fulfilment.
For its antiscion point at 16° Virgo: “In the zoo, children are brought face-to-face with an orang-utang.” Indicating a direct confrontation with the “wild” power of primordial nature within itself.
“To misunderstand the nature and the threat of evil is to risk being blindsided by it.” Joel C. Rosenberg
