NEW MOON IN SCORPIOScorpio is a Fixed, Water sign which deals with emotions and feelings on a deep level, therefore on this New Moon we should feel encouraged to seed any new projects with the right amount of fervour and commitment if we wish to see them manifest during the month to come. It would also be wise not to include emotional blackmail and desire to win at all costs as part of our intentions.
The Lunation will occur at 28°11’ Scorpio (antiscion 01°49’ Aquarius on the same degree where Pluto is transiting), this is the second of a series of six New Moons at 28° of their respective signs.
The rulers of Scorpio, Mars (traditional) and Pluto (modern), are respectively in Sagittarius and Aquarius. Pluto is exactly conjoined to the antiscion point of this New Moon giving a deep transformative accent to it, probably not without an obsessive quality to it. The New Moon is also part of a Grand Water trine involving, Mercury R (conjunct the lunation), Saturn and Neptune in Pisces and Jupiter in Cancer. These three latter planets are all retrograde and there is the ongoing sextile between Saturn-Neptune and Uranus also active. Furthermore, with all the planets involved in the Grand Trine positioned in the final degrees of the Water signs this will give an extra burst of energy relative to the sign transited, an all-or-nothing effect. Emotions are therefore ruling the sky so to speak (seven planets in the Water signs and one each only in the other elements, six in the Fixed signs, three in Mutable and one in Cardinal as far as Modalities are concerned). We can therefore add stubbornness or only wanting to consider our own emotions as being paramount to the hue of this New Moon. Setting off the Grand Trine which otherwise would be prone to only dwelling on its emotions without really doing anything about them, is Uranus, also retrograde and on the final degree of Taurus. Will there be panic in the financial centres of the world leading to yet another crisis in this sector? Or will our emotions be propelled out of our comfort zone into new, perhaps surreal and scary scenarios?
Since Mercury R is exactly conjunct this New Moon, could the dark secrets being kept under lock and cover be revealed in a matter of moments as Sun and Mercury R meet in the “heart of the Sun” and Mercury R in Scorpio gains strength? Perhaps confirming this could be the parallel between Moon and Pluto (dark emotions) and the Mercury R//Sun both c//Uranus R (sudden release of information or subversive plans being made to be actuated at a later date)?
New Moons are the time when we are encouraged to set our intentions for the month to come regarding the house where it falls in our natal charts.
This New Moon will be on the Scorpio/Taurus axis (two fixed signs, the first Water the second Earth) which corresponds to the 8th-2nd houses on the zodiacal wheel: what others value vs what I value, wanting to tear down the known to make room for new things vs wanting to maintain the status quo, what I share with others vs what I want for myself, emotional storms vs calm, temptation vs security etc.
It will be particularly important for people with planets or angles in this and the other fixed signs of Aquarius, Taurus and Leo (keep orbs to 2° and less) giving more importance to conjunctions and oppositions.
Scorpio was originally represented by a serpent, the symbol long connected to healing and transformation and so this New Moon could be also about shedding our old skin as we attempt to grow.
Raven Kaldera in his book “Moon Phase Astrology” calls this New Moon in Scorpio “the Raging Moon” and during this period he suggests that “this is an excellent time to work in the shade, plumbing to the depths of our own psyche and learning to love the darker side or our soul by accepting ourselves for what we are without attempting to change”. He adds that “understanding is the point, not healing, but an understanding that leads to compassion of self.”
The Sabian symbol for this New Moon at 29° Scorpio: “An Indian squaw pleading to the chief for the lives of her children.” Indicating love as a principle of redemption.
For the antiscion at 02° Aquarius: “An unexpected thunderstorm.” Indicating the need to develop the inner security which will enable us to meet unexpected crises.
“Even in the loneliest moments I have been there for myself.” Sanober Khan
