URANUS STATIONS RETROGRADE IN GEMINI …… can we cope with surprises?
After a tentative entrance in Gemini on the 7th of July, Uranus starts his yearly, five-month retrograde period at 01°27’ Gemini on 05-06 September (antiscion 28°33’ Cancer) which lasts until 03 February 2026 when the planet stations direct at 27°27’ Taurus.
When planets station, they usually manifest all their power. Uranus represents revolution and change as well as the need to be free and independent, above all from responsibility. The planet governs science and technology as well as astrology it also lends an “aloof” feeling or impression to any planet it makes or receives aspects to/from.
Some keywords that might be associated with Gemini, ruled by Mercury, are: sociable, curious, intelligent, versatile, restless, fickle, amoral and sometimes not very honest! Gemini has been given rulership of the third house in the zodiacal wheel. This involves kin, communications of all types including those in internet or via telephone, short trips, neighbours and our local neighbourhood as well as speeches and debates. In mundane astrology the third house also involves rumours and propaganda, press releases etc, issues of free speech, transport systems as well as public opinion and matters of free speech.
Uranus on the other hand can be described as inventive, innovative, eccentric, unpredictable, reactive, mental and restless. It rules inventors, technicians, research, rebellion, freedom and democracy (for some it also rules astrologers having overridden its younger brother Mercury in this).
So, what might we have already experienced with Uranus in Gemini?
On a mundane level, free speech may already have become a huge issue. Gemini is a dual sign so we have already witnessed splits in mentalities with people fighting against each other for their different viewpoints.
As with the last time when Uranus was in Gemini and with wars practically waging all around us at this moment in time, many new inventions running along the lines of radio waves, new technological inventions will abound over the next seven years. These inventions will probably be used first in warfare and then adapted to civilian use. (Computers, microwaves, radar were all invented during the 1940’s when Uranus last transited the sign of Gemini.
When Uranus makes his final re-entry into Taurus we will have more of what has been seen during the last 7 years of the planet’s stay there.
On a mundane level, the already experienced disruption and innovation of monetary values– Bitcoin or virtual money with less cash around and thus less freedom to spend our money without being controlled electronically. Increased inflation as prices fly high due to lack of goods and increased transport expenses including trade taxes. Volcanic and seismic activity has been intensified as the earth shakes and makes us more aware of our precarious state of being. And the list goes on.
On a personal level we must look to the house where Uranus is currently transiting and to the house it resides in our natal chart…this is where the collective changes will filter down into the personal.
When planets go retrograde they interiorize their characteristics.
So, what might we expect from this retrograde period?
It will most affect those with planets between 4-0° of the Mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces) as well as 30-25° of the Fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius).
Firstly, it will impact the house it is travelling through (and the house where it is to be found in your natal chart plus the house/s ruled by Uranus). Uranus in transit direct might be experienced as a disruption in the natural affairs of the house, a sort of “going against the flow” due to un-thought of or unforeseen conditions or circumstances that suddenly arise.
The retrograde period could give some kind of respite and put you more in contact with your soul purpose and your needs for personal freedom and expression…a time of processing that allows you to regroup and assimilate changes that have appeared suddenly and that are sometimes unwanted or seemingly unnecessary and often painful. There may be a gleaning of new insights that might help you reform certain attitudes and patterns of which you were previously unaware so that you can transition them without too much upset or confusion.
The important point is not be too fixed or stagnant in the areas of the house where the planet is transiting, avoiding, where possible, to resist change since Uranus retrograde is really asking us to look below the surface of matters and to see them with true objectivity as soon as they are brought to our attention by outer events.
The Sabian symbol for 02° Gemini: “Santa Claus furtively filling stockings hanging in front of the fireplace.” Indicating a rewarded faith in spiritual blessings.
For the antiscion at 29° Cancer: “A Greek muse weighing newborn twins in golden scales.” Indicating the intuitive weighing of alternatives.
“Spirit over mind. Mind over matter. It’s that simple.” — Sahndra Fon Dufe
