NEW MOON IN PISCES ON 10 MARCH 2024
It’s all about seeing things as they really are.
The last of a series of five New Moons at 20° of the relative signs, this lunation will be at 20° 17’ Pisces (antiscion 09°43’ Libra).
New Moons are notoriously the best moment to set fresh intentions for the month ahead. This one falls on the 12th-6th house axis (Pisces-Virgo) in traditional astrology so themes such as chaos vs order, compassion vs criticism and wholeness vs perfection come to mind.
Similarly to the last Full Moon in Virgo with its lack of planets in the Fire element, there is only one planet in the Fire element in this chart. Lack of Fire often shows up as lack of drive and low vitality tending towards the pessimistic side and no wonder since the “vital” energy planets are all traditionally ruled by Fire signs (Sun-Leo, Mars-Aries, Jupiter-Sagittarius). Likewise, there is only one planet in the Cardinal signs, five in the Fixed and four in the Mutable ones making for a chart that needs to find a balance between being flexible yet having to run on the spot to dissipate the energy of at least four disruptive planets (Pluto, Mars, Uranus, Jupiter and Venus all Fixed).
The planets are all condensed between Aquarius and Taurus with Pluto and Uranus forming the rim of this bundle chart. Two very volatile planets in a square formation between signs but not between degrees. Uranus trying to shake up our value systems and Pluto endeavouring to transform our social values.
The dispositor of the New Moon is Jupiter in Taurus and the New Moon is separating from a sextile aspect to Jupiter whilst Mars is also separating from a square aspect to this planet. There may have been a general sense of optimism in the days preceding the lunation yet there may also have been an underlying friction as the crusader for social values (Mars) had a hard time getting around the stay put attitude of a Jupiter who prefers his very comfy status quo and yet with the ensuing Mars-Uranus square having a peregrine Mars in Aquarius craving some kind of revolutionary action and Uranus in Taurus wanting to enjoy life as he sees fit could bring forth a sudden disclosure of (uncontrollable) energy.
Also, Jupiter is separating from a sextile to Saturn and is simultaneously applying a conjunction to Uranus. Expansion and growth may have seemed feasible but now we’re approaching a time of sudden opportunities, will fear (Saturn) block us from taking advantage of them?
The lunation has also recently separated from a conjunction to Saturn and is quickly approaching another one to Neptune. To me this seems rather a directionless stellium of planets in Pisces in which dreams seem much more attractive than reality.
Mercury, approaching a sextile to Uranus, is conjunct Fixed Star Scheat which according to V. Robson indicates accidents and narrow escapes concerning water whilst Pluto is conjunct Fixed Star Altair which could indicate someone in command and have to do with bloodshed.
For the less spiritually inclined it’s still an excellent moment for reading a good book, listening to your favourite music or just daydreaming and, why not, thinking about how those fantasies and dreams could become reality.
Raven Kaldera in his book “Moon Phase Astrology” calls this new Moon
the “Dreamer’s Moon”.
He goes on to describe this Moon as “a reflection of Neptune’s influence on the Moon resulting in people who never quite know where all their edges are, barely able to figure out what is real from what is imaginary.” On this Moon he suggests that we use the time for (day)-dreaming since our strength at this moment is now in believing that our wishes can come true.
The Sabian symbol for 21° Pisces: “Under the watchful and kind eye of a Chinese servant, a girl fondles a little white lamb.” Indicating the growth in consciousness in its earliest tactile awareness of the wonders of unsophisticated living.
For 10° Libra: “Having passed safely through narrow rapids, a canoe reaches calm water.” Indicating the self-control and poise necessary to reach a steady state of inner stability.
“In dreams we enter a world that’s entirely our own.” Albus Dumbledore
