OOB NEW MOON IN SAGITTARIUS
……it’s just an illusion…or is it?
There will be a New Moon at 20°40’ Sagittarius (antiscion 09°21’ Capricorn) on December 12th. This is the 2nd New Moon of a series of 5 on the 20th degree of their respective signs.
This is a pretty buoyant New Moon, by all means be optimistic but don’t get too taken away because it could be an illusion!
One of the peculiarities of this lunation is the fact that we have a very forceful combination of Mars, Pluto and Sun all parallel each other by declination at 23° South and also Jupiter c//Venus and Saturn as well as Moon and Mercury OOB. The Moon is reaching one of its most extreme declinations at 27°22’ South.
This is the fourth consecutive lunation in which Mars is closely involved, in this case by a wide separating conjunction but still combust by just one degree so unable to provide that burst of energy that would be needed to get us out of the mud. The lunation is also applying a square aspect to Neptune in Pisces hinting that we still don’t have a clear picture in quite a lot of situations. Particularly so since Mercury is already stationing to retrograde (on the 15th) and stationary planets are considered particularly strong, however Mercury is separating from an easy trine aspect to Jupiter R in Taurus, some “truths” that have been disclosed very recently may seem to be too good or too unreal to be true especially since this news may have been delivered in a suave and psychologically soothing way (Venus in Scorpio separating from Mercury S in Capricorn). The New Moon is also tied into Uranus R by a tight quincunx aspect with an 8th house flavour, we may have been shocked (Uranus) and our comfort zone (Taurus) threatened by some revolutionary or transformative procedure (8th house flavour quincunx) that has suddenly been made public. The Moon and Jupiter however enjoy mutual reception so they may try to help each other in some way (Moon is exalted in Taurus where Jupiter transits and Moon in Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter). We could associate Moon with the people and Jupiter with the law, it may even be a law regulating money in some way.
Or we could interpret all the above as optimism and grandeur (Sagittarius) that could be difficult to grasp (Pisces) or that our vital energy (Sun) could dissipate in day-dreams and idleness (the square to Neptune). Again, our emotions (Moon) need the truth (Sagittarius) but the energy (Mars) is hard to grasp and channel into our dreams (Neptune) or, we could be guided by a higher power (Neptune) in all our endeavours (Mars) but we may be at odds with our conscious desires (Sun) and our instinctive urges (Moon) which tend towards more self-righteous (Sagittarius) actions.
The Modalities lean towards a Mutable situation with more flexibility available, but the Elements lack planets in the Air signs thus denying a more futuristic vision.
On New Moons we set our intentions for the month ahead and this one in particular offers the Sagittarian perspective on our destiny and our relationship with the universe inviting us to look ahead with optimism.
In his book “Moon Phase Astrology” author Raven Kaldera calls this Moon “the Gypsy Moon”. On this Moon he invites us to go out and experience new cultures and ideas, with the aim of stretching our abilities to accept all things foreign in order to challenge ourselves and our own prejudices. What better way to do this than travelling which can provide excellent points of view upon which to reflect when the journey is over. So, rather than just reading about new places it would be better to experience these in person on your own skin so as to say.
Particularly interested in this New Moon will be those persons with planets or angles between 18-22° of the mutable signs (Sagittarius, Pisces, Gemini and Virgo).
The Sabian symbol for 21° Sagittarius: “A child and a dog wearing borrowed eyeglasses.” Indicating the use of imagination and make-believe in anticipating higher stages of development.
For its antiscion point 10° Capricorn: “An albatross feeding from the hand of a sailor.” Indicating the overcoming of fear and its rewards.
“Because sometimes people who seem good end up being not as good as you might have hoped.” Jonathan Safran Foer
What are your intentions for this New Moon?
