NEW MOON IN SCORPIO could be a fuse….
The New Moon will occur at 12°40’ of Scorpio (antiscion 17°20’ Aquarius). This is the first of five consecutive New Moons at 12° of the relative signs over the next five months and thus important for those with this degree prominent in their natal charts.
Another lunation chart with a very heavy emphasis on the Fixed modality (6 planets) and with only one planet in the Fire element.
The New Moon in Fixed sign Scorpio is exactly opposite, almost to the minute of arc, Uranus retrograde in Taurus.
So, since the luminaries are conjunct in the same sign, we could say that our head (Sun) and our heart (Moon) are on the same wavelength (Fixed water: deep and introspective) and they are applying an opposition to retrograde Uranus in the Fixed Earth sign of Taurus. Exact oppositions put us face-to-face with the planetary energies involved and require a compromise if anything worthwhile is to come from them. We need to find a balance between what we have (Taurus) and might lose (Uranus) and what we hold dear in a deeper way (Scorpio). Scorpio needs to break down to make room for the new and appreciates the hidden significance of matters whilst Taurus sees and appreciates the face value of things. Uranus by nature is unpredictable and clinging to the tangible (Taurus) may suddenly disintegrate as a hidden meaning emerges. How can we try to manage these energies on a personal level? By accepting that energy, by nature, is fluctuating, and by trying our best not to become to fixated on certain prejudices or ideas but to remain more open as to who we really are.
The New Moon is also conjunct two fixed Stars, Alphecca which according to the late astrologer Vivian Robson bestows honour and dignity and Acrux which bestows justice.
Jupiter is parallel Sun and both are contra-parallel Uranus, a lot of big, dark energy facing a planet with very unpredictable energy.
Mars, co-ruler and traditional dispositor of this lunation is also in Scorpio (its night-time sign) thus very strong, and is applying a square aspect to Saturn, also in its night-time sign and co-ruler of Aquarius. Both these planets are in signs of Fixed modality. Weird (Aquarius) ideas about social limitations (Saturn) could imply that any means – even the most devious – (Mars in Scorpio) could justify achieving goals and with both planets being so strong this is a high indication of social unrest on a large scale throughout the world. Pluto, the New Moon’s modern co-ruler is sextile by sign but not by degree to the planets in Scorpio, an opportunity for serious chaos is certainly possible, let’s just pray that no-one lights the fuse.
This New Moon also occurs hours before Venus and Mercury change signs entering Capricorn and Scorpio respectively.
Mercury in Libra is separating from a square to Pluto, obsessive ideas or powerful persuasive measures could anticipate this New Moon.
Venus, far out-of-bounds in the Southern hemisphere is on the anaretic* degree in Sagittarius before entering Capricorn and thus Void of Course.
New Moons are the time when we are encouraged to set our intentions for the month to come regarding the house where it falls in our natal charts.
Countries with charts involving 12° Scorpio are: Poland (Sun), Lithuania and Cuba (Moon), UK (Mars), New Zealant (Asc).
This New Moon will be on the Scorpio/Taurus axis (two fixed signs, the first Water the second Earth) which corresponds to the 8th-2nd houses in traditional astrology: what others value vs what I value, wanting to tear down the known to make room for new things vs wanting to maintain the status quo, what I share with others vs what I want for myself, emotional storms vs calm, temptation vs security etc.
It will be particularly important for people with planets or angles in this and the other fixed signs of Aquarius, Taurus and Leo (keep orbs to 2° and less) giving more importance to conjunctions and oppositions.
Raven Kaldera in his book “Moon Phase Astrology” calls this New Moon in Scorpio “the Raging Moon” and during this period he suggests that “this is an excellent time to work in the shade, plumbing to the depths of our own psyche and learning to love the darker side or our soul by accepting ourselves for what we are without attempting to change”. He adds that “understanding is the point, not healing, but an understanding that leads to compassion of self.”
The Sabian symbol for 13° Scorpio: “An inventor performs a laboratory experiment.” Indicating the driving urge toward achievement, which is at the root of civilisation.
For the antiscion at 18° Aquarius: “A man’s secret motives are being publicly unmasked.” Indicating the difficulty for the modern individual to keep secret his private past or his deeper motives.
I think that the Sabian symbols well depict the energy of this New Moon.
