• NEW MOON IN ARIES 24 MARCH 2020

  • Could be very insidious…

The New Moon (the first of the astrological year) will occur at 4°12’ Aries (antiscion 25°48’ Virgo).

The last of a series of six New Moons at 4° of their respective signs it finds itself on a very important degree since it is square to the Solar Eclipse of December 2019 at 4° Capricorn and thus activates the eclipse. In December we were first hearing about the Coronavirus in distant, or so it seemed, China.

This is a me, me, me, action-oriented New Moon squaring the sign of Capricorn which is loaded with “heavy” planets equally action-oriented but in a much more determined, structure-changing, transformational manner. We really do need to incorporate some Libran energy into all this to find some equilibrium and sense of the “other”, helping those in most difficulty. The last ten degrees of the Cardinal signs together with the very early degrees of the Fixed signs are the ones most involved in the present planetary movements. The only planet in the Air signs at the moment is Saturn at 0° Aquarius, Air signs are the ones you need in an emergency with their gift of being able to look and plan ahead anticipating events, Saturn is powerful but not particularly agile, it will take time to find innovate (Aquarius) solutions to present-day problems.

Mars, the dispositor of this lunation is, together with Pluto and Jupiter, still well within orb of the Saturn-Pluto conjunction which occurred in January and thus energizes this degree.

As I already mentioned, the New Moon is squaring the December Solar Eclipse (4° Capricorn, a South Node eclipse and usually considered less fortunate than North node ones) as well as the nodal axis and Uranus is in a trine aspect to this degree (adding an unexpected emotional swing that could help us react in a totally new and practical way to events). All this suggests that the arrival of more news about financial, health or environmental matters and governmental decisions might result at best unsettling, if not frightening (South Node emphasis), but we should also receive some encouragement from leaders/experts (North Node emphasis) that success is possible and a trine from Venus, in home sign Taurus, to the Capricorn stellium should help us find some comfort be it not pleasure in these hard times.

Mars, Pluto and Jupiter in orb of the Saturn-Pluto conjunction again put the highlight on the epidemic which, at this point, none of us believe is going to be over in a short period of time and many are arriving at the conclusion that working together as one is the only option remaining.

The New Moon falls on the 1-7th axis (Aries-Libra) in traditional astrology: the I vs us, me vs you, assertion vs compromise, independence vs relationship etc. Also affected by this New Moon are those people with planets or angles in the Cardinal signs of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn.

Raven Kaldera in his book “Moon Phase Astrology” calls this “The Infant’s” Moon and he compares it to the “Fool” in the tarot deck, an innocent being eager to discover the world. He states that on this Moon “we begin things, we revisit our relationship with that state of utter faith and excitement of the grand unknown. Have we become too cynical for that kind of trust?”

Sabian symbol for 5° Aries: “A triangle with wings.” Indicating the capacity for self-transcending.

For the antiscion at 26° Virgo: “A boy with a censer serves the priest near the altar.” Indicating the first stage of actual participation in the great ritual of planetary evolution.

“Tough times don’t last. Tough people do.” Julian Edelman
