NEW MOON IN VIRGO ON 20TH SEPTEMBER 2017 (GMT)

On the 20^th of this month there will be a New Moon at 27°27’ Virgo, a Mutable, Earth sign ruled by Mercury which is also presently transiting this sign. It takes place on the heels of the Libra Equinox (22 September) when Autumn officially rolls in.

The house axis involved in this lunation is the 6th-12^th, Virgo-Pisces involving such matters as discrimination vs universality, order vs chaos and criticism vs compassion. The New Moon will involve those persons with planets/angles between 25-29° of the mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces).

New Moons are times when the Sun and Moon are conjoined in the identical degree of the same sign and this causes the Moon to remain hidden from our view.

It’s a great moment to set intentions for the coming month regarding the matters of the house where it falls in our natal chart. These lunations can be seen as moments of “seeding”.

“The New Moon, of course, is in the sign of the Sun, and the double emphasis on that sign is said to have meaning in terms of what we experience that month. The Sun’s sign now given extra emphasis by the addition of the Moon, is a seasonal theme.” Author M.K. Simms reminds us in her book “Moon Tides, Soul Passages.

Whilst astrologer Raven Kaldera calls this the

“Maiden’s Moon”

during which we are invited to search solace in solitude rather than desperately trying to fill the room with other auras.

In Virgo, the New Moon focusses on our welfare (both physical and mental) and asks us to choose between what nurtures us and what harms or poisons us (Neptune) giving order to the chaos (Pisces) that surrounds us. There is also a tight opposition of the Sun-Moon duo to Chiron in Pisces, acknowledging our wounds can be uplifting and may lead to a way of personal healing through helping others.

At the present time there are 5 planets transiting the sign of Virgo: Sun, Moon, Mercury, Mars and Venus putting huge emphasis not only on our well-being but also that of the environment.

Mercury, exalted in its own sign, is in partile opposition to retrograde Neptune in Pisces, also in its home sign. Facts can become misleading and modesty, typical of the Virgoan nature, may seem fake. Health matters could also pop up, some not easy to diagnose, but dreaming could help us get through our daily routine by expanding our intuition to use creative thinking and so see facts in a different light. This opposition is supported however by Mercury’s applying trine to Pluto retrograde in Capricorn which should help “steady” the Neptunian illusion.
