OOB NEW MOON IN CAPRICORN
There will be an OOB New Moon at 20°44’ Capricorn (antiscion 09°16’ Sagittarius). This is the 3rd New Moon in a series of five at 20° of their relative signs.
Capricorn is a Cardinal, Earth sign, so persons with planets or angles of the natal chart at 17-23° of Capricorn, Aries, Cancer and Libra will be particularly affected by this lunation.
This is yet another lunation involving Mars (still OOB for a couple of weeks). The Sun and Moon are in fact “besieged” by (sandwiched between) two malefic planets, OOB Mars and Pluto on the final all-or nothing degree of Capricorn for the next to the last time (will this be the last warning to despots who have ruled too long?). Besiegement is a condition whereas one or more planets separate from a malefic planet (in this case OOB Mars) and apply to another malefic, in this case Pluto (in traditional astrology the two malefic planets are Mars and Saturn since Pluto was yet to be discovered but modern astrology includes Pluto too). It is a condition considered as dangerous since the planets involved (Sun and Moon here) are prevented from acting in a positive and constructive way. In Capricorn, both Sun and Moon have little dignity, Sun only minor dignity by face and Moon in detriment so they are already hindered in being able to act in a more positive manner. To add to the misfortune, Sun and Moon are on the degree and square the transiting nodal axis (Aries-Libra), unable to act properly and almost forced to choose between past and future with no valid guide to show them the way. Dispositor Saturn has little dignity in Pisces and OOB Mars although exalted in Capricorn, is separating from a trine aspect with Saturn whilst Jupiter is applying a sextile aspect to Saturn. This will hopefully show us making slow but sure progress whilst checking that our expectations aren’t too high, Mars is also applying an almost exact trine aspect to Jupiter which could light the fire of irresponsibility.
The lunation is just separating from a trine aspect to Uranus, the planet of sudden surprises. Will rash behaviour be the cause of our downfall due to miscalculation of the risks or information that was aimed at deceiving us in the first place (the lunation next makes a sextile aspect to Neptune and Mercury is also separating from a square to Neptune)?
The planets are in a bowl formation in the lunation chart with Venus and Uranus on the rim, the good things in life are based on idealistic concepts that will be shaken up in a very unpredictable way in order to make a (new) sense of them (Venus applying a wide quincunx to Uranus with a 6th house flavour).
There is no planet in the Air element of this lunation chart but it is heavy in Earth, a hands on, think about today not tomorrow attitude seems to prevail, the Modalities are heavily Mutable, we need to be flexible whatever comes our way.
New Moons are notoriously the best moment to set fresh intentions for the month ahead and with Capricorn involved, this will be done in a very serious, responsible fashion.
In traditional astrology Capricorn rules the 10th house so this New Moon falls on the 10th-4th house axis; public vs private, one parent vs the other parent, work vs home etc.
According to the late Alice Bailey, a renowned English astrologer, (16th June 1880 –15th December 1949) the sign of Capricorn is represented by three stages and images: the more instinctual phase of development is represented by the crocodile, followed by a more mature phase envisaged by the mountain goat and finally the unicorn whose single horn represents the unified vision of the third eye.
On a more modern note, author Raven Kaldera in his book “Moon Phase Astrology” describes this as the “Forgotten one’s Moon”. Likening this New Moon to the child who no-one notices. On this New Moon he posits that we should remember our early experiences of being “left out” and the feelings and fantasies that we used to carry around with us during that painful period. We now have the opportunity to re-examine those ambitions of ours that may have been stunted or set aside because of this early trauma. Therefore, according to him, this is an excellent time to sort out those areas in our life where we lose our power and what steps we might be able to take to change our status here.
The Sabian symbol for 21° Capricorn: “A relay race.” Indicating the value of competition in developing group consciousness.
For the antiscion at 10° Sagittarius: “A theatrical representation of a golden-haired goddess of opportunity.” Indicating society’s efforts at dramatizing the greatness of what it offers to the ambitious person.
“And so we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.” The Great Gatsby – F. Scott Fitzgerald
