• OOB MARS STATIONS DIRECT IN CANCER 23/24 FEBRUARY 2025

  • Mars station directOOB MARS STATIONS DIRECT IN CANCER 23/24 FEBRUARY 2025

In retrograde motion Mars returned to the sign of Cancer on the 6th of January 2025 and will only leave the sign between the 17-18 April 2025! During this time Mars will be OOB from 30-31st December until 7th April 2025 remaining at the highest declination of 26°14’N between 9-15th February.

On the 23/24 February Mars stations to turn direct at 17°01’ Cancer (antiscion 12°59’ Gemini).

The last time the planet was retrograde in Cancer (for a short time) was from mid-November to end December 2007.

What was happening in your life then?

During the retrograde period we may have felt like our plans have backfired, lost momentum or proceeded too slowly but this will have given us the time to reflect on past choices and actions. It’s important to consider the house involved in the retrograde and the aspects that Mars makes and receives in the natal chart in order to understand more fully how the retrograde will have affected each of us.

In Cancer, the planet has dignity by triplicity but it is also in its fall. Here, Mars could defend its tribe in an exaggerated and very mean way particularly so since 17° falls in the Scorpio decan of Cancer adding a nasty sting to this already “mean” planet (OOB and in fall). Mars in the sign of Cancer hints at a peevish, spiteful planet aimed at self-satisfaction rather than altruistic or maternal traits.

Oh, certainly, there may be some good things we can say about Mars’ stay in Cancer. He becomes imaginative and creative pursuing interests independently and ambitiously, but not directly. After all Mars is the ruler of the Cardinal sign Aries and Cancer is also a Cardinal sign but both go about taking the initiative in a very different manner. Mars could also become a caring lover in the sign of nurturing and super-protective of his tribe but I’m not quite sure that will be the case.

Unfortunately, however, we can say a lot more negative things about Mars in Cancer. He adds fuel to Cancer’s natural high sensitivity and moodiness becoming easily insulted and very emotional in his reactions.

Another twist could be the passive-aggressive behaviour since Mars in Cancer is unable to express anger directly preferring to go into a bad mood, sulk or worse, accuse others by playing on their feelings of guilt and thus giving them a bad conscious.

You could personally experience any of the above or you could meet these traits coming from someone else.

On a slightly different take about Mars; the late and great astrologer Ivy M. Goldstein-Jacobson postulated that the house where Mars is to be found in the natal theme is the place where we can, if necessary, adopt a “I can do without this, if I have to” attitude since Mars is the one “who cuts out”. Have you found that applicable to your Mars placement? Are you able, if not willing, to renounce to a part of the affairs of the house where your Mars is to be found at birth?

The chart of the Mars station has an exact Mercury-Mars trine (Pisces-Cancer) indicating both a quick wit and a sharp tongue. There are four planets (Sun, Mercury, Saturn and Neptune as well as the North Node) in Pisces, making trine aspects by sign but not all by degree to Mars.  Mars is approaching a trine aspect to Saturn and both planets are in a sextile aspect to Uranus (exact on 4/5 April). This could indicate the possibility of a stalemate situation suddenly exploding and concluding perhaps in a not foreseeable or agreeable way thus leading to an upset which takes us very much out of our comfort zone. The Moon in Capricorn (where Mars is exalted) is approaching an opposition and is in Mutual Reception with Mars (Mars exalted in Capricorn and Moon ruling Mars) and both planets are OOB this could indicate acting very much out of character on the basis of emotions or a constant sensation of unrest with a need to destroy whatever it is that provides us with inner and outer comfort.

Worth noting in this chart is Neptune conjunct and on the same degree as the North Node making it an important player in the Mars station. This could lead to a feeling of “other worldliness” and the sensation that everything will work out fine in the end. To each his own on this one!

The Mars station direct chart has a strong influence on Mr T’s chart too with transiting OOB Mars in an exact square aspect to his stationary natal Jupiter which is also in an exact square to his natal Uranus and transiting Mercury is exactly square his natal Uranus as well as transiting Jupiter applying a conjunction to his natal Uranus. All this could be good for future action but too much haste could also cause recklessness and not being able to see further than one’s own nose as he leaps from one idea to the other without any kind of predictability. It could also lend him great flashes of intuition and well as the courage to follow his own ideals or he may suffer from wanting to seem too “original”.

More sobering effects are however also in course in his chart:

Transiting Saturn in his 7th house of open enemies is applying a trine aspect to his natal Saturn in his 11th house, he’s preparing to actuate his goals of glory but without having a good grasp on which way these will actually turn out. T Saturn is also the apex of a Mutable T-square to his Sun and North Node in 10th house opposite his Moon-South Node in 4th house. There could be delays and set backs to his strategies of professional success, it’s necessary to have patience and proper planning instead of giving in to an overwhelming pressure of enthusiasm, this could also  be an aspect that affects his physical health in some way too.

The Sabian symbol for 18° Cancer: “A hen scratching the ground to find nourishment for her progeny.” Indicating the practical concern with everyday nourishment necessary to sustain one’s outreaching activities.

For the antiscion at 13° Gemini: “A famous pianist giving a concert performance.” Indicating individual fulfilment in the performing of a social function to which some prestige is attached.
