  • New Moon in AquariusNEW MOON IN AQUARIUS

“It was my letting go that gave me a better hold.” Chris Matakas

There will be a New Moon at 09°51’ of Aquarius (antiscion 20°09’ Scorpio), a fixed, Air sign on the 29th January, this is the third in a series of five New Moons in a row at 09° of the relative monthly sign.

The lunation has Moon peregrine in Aquarius and Sun in detriment in the sign, looks like neither head nor heart know exactly what to do (leaders and people).

The two lights are separating from a conjunction to Mercury (also peregrine) perhaps there might have been some arrogant and illusory discussions going on in the days before the lunation. Or perhaps it’s that not only our body and soul lend themselves to the collective but it’s our thoughts that remain detached and are able to better cope with happenings should they slip outside our comfort zone. To reiterate the above themes we also have Moon//Mercury both c//Jupiter R.

The New Moon is also applying a trine aspect to a debilitated and retrograde Jupiter in Gemini, again no help here perhaps only hindrance?

Saturn, the traditional ruler of Aquarius and dispositor of the lunation is peregrine in Pisces and has Venus separating from a conjunction to it. Mars R, in triplicity and fall in Cancer is making a trine aspect to Saturn which however may also be of little help if not indeed an additional  ominous factor to add to the behaviour of Saturn. Uranus, the modern ruler of Aquarius is (for another few hours) retrograde in Taurus and Venus is separating from a sextile to the planet. So, neither dispositors are in good shape and able to help the wandering Moon and the “debilitated” Sun. Venus the only planet involved with both dispositors has dignity by exaltation in the sign of Pisces. An omen that unification is possible if we all try hard enough?

With only one planet in Earth and none in Fire the chart leans heavily upon futuristic plans lead mainly by emotions rather than practical solutions and with only one planet in the Cardinal modality even those plans will be difficult to actuate given five planets in Fixed signs and 4 in Mutable ones.

New Moons are excellent moments to do a reality check, asking ourselves where we are at the present moment in time and where we would like to go, particularly regarding the matters of the house where the New Moon falls in your chart and thus set our relative intentions for the month ahead.

Whilst this New Moon might be used to release emotional attachments that restrict our freedom in some way it also reminds us that we are not alone and that by involving ourselves with others we can change our world. Another point to consider during this Moon phase might be how to strengthen your network of friends (11th house) as you reflect on your own unique talents (5th house).

Raven Kaldera in his book “Moon Phase Astrology” calls this the Father’s Son Moon. He suggests that all New Moon archetypes are children and youths and, as such, that there is a youthful quality to their emotional natures. Thus, the Father’s Son represents the Golden Boy, being the father’s heir and hope. On this New Moon, Kaldera suggests that we examine our feelings about our own personal father (or mother if she was career-minded or externally-orientated instead of concentrating on the home). Or we could look at our attitudes concerning the “Fathers of Society” and how “their” rules and regulations have or have not any value for us at this present time. However, if we are at unease with these guidelines, we might ask ourselves whether we have had or have the courage to openly disclaim them or if it pays us in some way (and which way) to follow them blindly.

The Sabian symbol for 10° Aquarius: “A man who has for a time become the embodiment of a popular ideal is made to realise that as a person he is not this ideal.” Indicating the need to deal with human beings as persons rather than as screens upon which one projects one’s dream and ideal.

For the antiscion point at 21° Scorpio: “Obeying his conscience, a soldier resists orders.” Indicating a readiness to face the results of a refusal to follow the authoritarian patterns of an aggressive society.

“You are a piece of the puzzle of someone else’s life. You may never know where you fit, but others will fill the holes in their lives with pieces of you.” Bonnie Arbon

What are your intentions for this New Moon?
