• MARS IS OUT OF BOUNDS (OOB)* AS IT ENTERS CAPRICORN ON 14-15 DECEMBER 2025

  • Mars in CapricornMARS IS OUT OF BOUNDS (OOB)* AS IT ENTERS CAPRICORN

Are you ready for the ride?

Mars, having exceeded the Sun’s outermost limit from the celestial equator, finds itself, as from 27 November, out of bounds in a southern direction as it enters Capricorn, the sign of its exaltation. The planet won’t be making or receiving any Ptolemaic aspects until after it has re-entered the bounds so until 07-08 January it will be free to act or misact as it likes since it will have no-one to “play” with! Although high Southern declination does tend to lead to a less open way of acting, more undercover and hidden so any wild cards could be kept up someone’s sleeve!

Mars will remain OOB until 4 January 2026 when it will be at 15° Capricorn in the tropical zodiac. During their OOB phase planets express their full potential and act as wild cards, completely unpredictable…be it in a positive or negative manner.

Mars will be OOB together with the Moon from 18-21 December, on 22 December they will be joined by Venus. From 23-28 December, Venus and Mars will continue their OOB journey and from 29-31 December they will be joined by Mercury, from 1-3 January we will have Moon, Mercury, Venus and Mars OOB and from the 5-15 January only Mercury will be OOB, joined by the Moon on the 14-15 January when Mercury returns in bounds. So, over the Festive period and into the New Year we will have four personal planets OOB.

Mars is an assertive planet, Capricorn is a restrictive sign ruled by Saturn, it imbues responsibility, structure, ambition, drive and temperance to any planet there.  However, Mars is exalted in Capricorn, he’s the honoured guest and as such more or less free to act as he deems fit. So, whereas Mars in Capricorn might indicate steady progress and the drive to work to achieve, it could also mean recklessness (acting without consideration of others) and even inhibition (being held back by fear or meeting with difficulties that hinder its progressive attitude).

Mars will make the following connections in Capricorn but all when the planet has already re-entered the bounds:

07-08 January: Venus conjunct Mars (18°09’ Capricorn) – you may need to fight for what you love today.

    10 January: opposite Jupiter R (20°04’ Capricorn-Cancer) – huge ambition.

17-18 January: Mercury conjunct Mars (26°03’ Capricorn) – intentionally hurting with words is never nice.

19-20 January: trine Uranus R (27°33’ Capricorn-Taurus) and simultaneously sextile Saturn (27°33’ Capricorn-Pisces) which is sextile Uranus – as you break free from your inhibitions you have the opportunity to work towards your goals and see their potential.

    22-23 January: sextile Neptune (29°54’ Capricorn-Pisces) – a lazy day.

    Bibliography

*What does it mean for a planet to be OOB? When we cast an astrological chart we use a precise locality (birth place) on the earth and from this observation point we take note of the position of the planets in the sky at the time of birth and this enables us to calculate the angles that the planets form to the given locality. Another point of reference however is the celestial equator (which is the terrestrial equator elongated into space). When planets travel beyond 23°27’ either side of the celestial equator, be it North or South, they are referred to as “out of bounds”.

OOB planets can also be found in birth charts and special attention should be paid to them since they are considered “stronger”.
