FULL MOON AND TOTAL LUNAR ECLIPSE IN VIRGOA Moon full of anxiety
The Full Moon (Blood Moon) will occur at 12°54’ Virgo (antiscion 17°06’ Aries).
A Virgo Moon tends to be very critical and wants things to be done in a correct manner.
The Eclipse will be visible at least in part in Eastern Europe, Asia, Australia, North and South America, Pacific, Atlantic, Indian Oceans, Arctic and Antarctic.
Dispositor of this Full Moon is Mercury now retrograde in Pisces where the planet is in detriment and fall and these two factors plus being retrograde and combust by moving into a conjunction to the Sun make a rather wishy-washy version of Mercury, almost incapable of acting. A lot of lies could still be on the table told in a very sweet manner due to the separative conjunction from Mercury to an exalted Venus in Pisces. Furthermore, Mercury is parallel both Neptune and Saturn, will the mistruths seem real or will they just crumble? Moon is also moving into a sextile aspect to a retrograde and exalted Jupiter in Cancer, Jupiter is also trine Sun, Mercury and Venus…this is hint to where the exaggerations (aka lies) might come from. Moon in Virgo is also peregrine and conjunct South node, the people or our emotions are all over the place and desperately need to cling to the known rather than take a leap into the unfamiliar.
There is an excess of the Water element, again pointing to lots of emotions swirling around without a definite direction (only one planet in Air). The Modalities have an excess of planets in Mutable signs, at least we may have some flexibility as moods and plans change daily.
Full Moons are also known to be times when things climax, when we decide that enough is enough for certain aspects of our life because we avert an intensified conflict between two major areas and we need to find a way to honour both. They shine a light on the area that is “hidden” and in this case, all matters concerning the 6th house and the sign of Virgo. This is certainly more evident when the Full Moon closely aspects any personal planets or angles in your chart (10-16° of the mutable signs: Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces and Gemini), it also depends on the houses involved in your individual chart.
Full Moons put the spotlight on the darker side of life, where we need to question our motivations and recognize if we are coming from a place of being too analytical (Virgo) or too lost in a world of fantasy and oneness with the world (Pisces). It poses the question of what needs to be understood and transformed and what needs to be kept versus what we need to let go of. The Virgo-Pisces axis with the Moon occurring in Virgo means that Pisces might be the dark side with its charming façade which can also make a good manipulator of other peoples’ feelings.
Whilst solar eclipses manifest as external events in our lives, lunar eclipses indicate more intimate, emotional changes which could of course still manifest as external events if the brooding that accompanies our innermost vicissitudes causes changes to our behaviour at an individual level. Such events are in fact brought about by our own thoughts and feelings.
Eclipses can be considered as a “spotlight” on the matters of the house axis where they occur in your chart (particularly so if personal planets or angles are involved in the eclipse degrees). It shines its light and brings to our attention those areas of our lives that need to be addressed for some reason. Dealing with these matters, once identified, could lead to a life-changing event in some cases. However, since events under eclipses are often unexpected and sudden it’s not always possible to prepare in advance but having a notion of the matters of the houses interested in the event could give us inkling as to where the disruption might come from.
This eclipse belongs to the 10 North series like the recent Solar Eclipse in mid-February and the last Lunar Eclipse at this degree took place on 3 March 2007 (the same day) but of a different Saros series.
what was going on in your life then?
Bernadette Brady attributes a strong emphasis on communication to this eclipse series and the possibility of bringing frustrating or inhibiting events into our lives as well as a feeling of tiredness.
The house axis involved in this Full Moon is the 6th – 12th, Virgo-Pisces; intellect vs intuition, effort vs surrender, judgement vs compassion etc.
Virgo and the 6th house, in modern astrology, respect the physical body and thus fitness regimes and diets which are involved in the healthy functioning of our bodies, it also includes our daily routine and work. Its shadow side however tends to treat the body as a slave, pushing it to its physical limits until injury or illness force us to pay attention. Virgo is very discriminating and delights in helping people, its shadow part tends to judge and falls into servitude by keeping itself over-occupied in the hope of escaping feelings of powerlessness and loneliness. In traditional astrology however the 6th house represents any person “who serves us” such as people who work in our homes including craftsmen, it also represents ill-health and unpleasantness among other things.
This Full Moon could thus be a good moment to step-up the ways that aid our emotional well-being leaving our rational part behind for a while.
In his book “Moon Phase Astrology”, author Raven Kaldera calls this Virgo Moon phase the “Spinner’s Moon” – he or she who spins the thread of life for each and every one of us. He suggests we use this time to count our web of obligations, whom we owe, who owes us and how we feel about these obligations. And, moreover, who will be there to catch us should we fall? For him, this is also a good time to render service to others in a selfless way.
The Sabian symbol for 13° Virgo: “A powerful statesman overcomes a state of political hysteria.” Indicating the focussing of the collective need for order and structural interdependence into a personage who incarnates the answer to this need.
For the antiscion at 18° Aries: “An empty hammock stretched between two trees.” Indicating a constructive alternation of activity and rest.
For the Sun at 13° Pisces: “An ancient sword, used in many battles, is displayed in a museum.” Indicating that through the effectual use of his will a consecrated man can become a symbol of courage for all those who follow in his footsteps.
“There is nothing worse than a sharp image of a fuzzy concept” Ansel Adams
