FULL MOON AND LUNAR ECLIPSE IN TAURUS
Something has got to give….
There will be a Full Moon and a partial Lunar Eclipse at 05°09’ Taurus (antiscion 24°51’ Leo) on the 28th October. It will be visible to people in the Eastern Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia (1).
This is the fourth and final eclipse of this year.
The Moon is approaching a conjunction to Jupiter R and applying an opposition to Sun, Mercury and Mars. Our emotions (Moon) could be very entangled with holding on to our material comforts (Jupiter in Taurus) but the opposition to the threesome in Scorpio makes that option very debatable inviting us to question (Mercury in Scorpio) our moral principles (Sun in Scorpio) before becoming completely obsessed by them and desire to act accordingly (Mars in Scorpio). Particularly so since Mars (in its own sign) is the dispositor of Sun and Mercury.
Dispositor of the lunation is Venus in Virgo approaching a trine aspect with Uranus R in Taurus, our values could be hugely disrupted be these of a sentimental or financial nature but not in a completely unexpected manner.
Once again, we have no planets in the Fire Element and only one (Venus) in the Air Element, likewise we have only one planet in the Cardinal Modality and six in the Fixed Modality. A total lack of intuition (Fire) and scarce ability to plan ahead (Air), a lack of oomph (Cardinal) and far too much Fixed energy. Looks like we’re stuck in an uncomfortable rut but something will surely have to give.
Falling on the Taurus-Scorpio axis, 2-8 houses, the Moon-Sun opposition highlights our values vs the values we share with others, peace vs emotional storms, material comfort vs emotional drama etc.
Full Moons put the spotlight on the darker side of life, where we need to question our motivations and recognize if we are coming from a place of love for ourselves (Taurus) or suspicion and jealousy (Scorpio). It poses the question of what needs to be understood and transformed and what needs to be kept versus what we need to let go of. The Taurus-Scorpio axis with the Moon occurring in Taurus means that Scorpio is the dark side with all its trust issues and its penchant for drama and jealousy whilst Taurus indicates that awareness of love and comfort is the way out of Scorpio’s dilemma.
As per the Solar Eclipse 15 days ago this Lunar Eclipse also belongs to the Saros series 7 South which Bernadette Brady describes thus “the individual experiencing this series will find that huge obstacles will suddenly and easily clear or, on the negative side, a pending potential crisis will suddenly manifest and move through his or her life very rapidly. Either way the individual will feel that everything is moving at great speed.”
The last time there was a Lunar Eclipse near this degree (4° Scorpio) was on October 17 2005.
What was happening in your life then?
5° Taurus is a particularly important degree this year since it is the same degree as and in opposition to the Solar Eclipse in October last year in Scorpio and thus activates it as well as being on the same degree as the Jupiter direct station which will take place on the 31 December this year at 05°34’ Taurus.
A country interested in this degree having Sun at 5° Scorpio is Turkiye (29/10/1923, Ankara EET 20.30). Perhaps it will take the lead in peace negotiations of the two wars which are presently being waged on the international front. Data World Horoscopes written by Nick Campion.
Whilst Solar eclipses manifest as external events in our lives, Lunar eclipses indicate more intimate, emotional changes which could of course still manifest as external events if the brooding that accompanies our innermost vicissitudes causes changes to our behaviour at an individual level. Such events are in fact brought about by behavioural changes caused by our own thoughts and feelings.
Personally, I consider only the conjunction and opposition aspects to eclipses (the square only if the Sun or Moon is affected in your chart) and orbs should be less than 2°, slightly larger if Sun or Moon are affected in your chart. Most affected therefore will be those with planets or angles in Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius between 3-8°.
Eclipses can be considered as a “spotlight” on the matters of the house axis where they occur in your chart (particularly so if personal planets or angles are involved in the eclipse degrees). It shines its light and brings to our attention those areas of our lives that need to be addressed for some reason. Dealing with these matters, once identified, could lead to a life-changing event in some cases. However, since events under eclipses are often unexpected and sudden it’s not always possible to prepare in advance but having a notion of the matters of the houses interested in the event could give us an inkling as to where the disruption might come from.
Eclipses also have a stronger effect on tides, tectonic plate movement and our moods of course and these manifestations might be felt in the days coming up to the event.
Raven Kaldera in his book “Moon Phase Astrology” calls this Full Moon the
“Earth Mother’s Moon”
According to him, it’s a time when we should take care of our body and the physical (not emotional) needs of others. We could ask ourselves questions such as: “Am I eating healthily?”, “Do I need a medical check-up?”, “Am I sleeping enough?” “Do I feel good at skin-level with my clothes or does fashion prevail over my comfort?” “Am I getting enough hugs and regular body contact from my loved ones?” On this Moon we need to find the answers to the above questions and fix what is not working.
The Sabian symbol for the Moon at 06° Taurus: “Cantilever bridge across a deep gorge.” Indicating the conquest of separateness through group cooperation.
For the Moon’s antiscion at 25° Leo: “A large camel is seen crossing a vast and forbidding desert.” Indicating self-sufficiency in the face of a long and exhausting adventure.
For the Sun at 06° Scorpio: “The gold rush tears men away from their native soil.” Indicating the passionate search for new values which, at any level, promise a more abundant life.
“I know what I have given you…I do not know what you have received.” Antonio Porchia
