CAPRICORN FULL MOON
being responsible is part of the game…
This Full Moon will occur at 21°21’ Capricorn (antiscion 8°39’ Sagittarius).
This is a Full Moon with a huge potential for change. The Moon in Capricorn, in its detriment, where it feels least at home and is emotionally “cold”, is conjunct Pluto, both are opposing the Sun in Cancer to which a peregrine OOB Mercury is applying a conjunction and is already combust.
On one hand we have the power to really transform our emotional set-up regarding our responsibilities (to ourselves and others) and on the other selfishness and pettiness which could spoil this metamorphosis or which could encourage us to listen to our gut feelings and react on them.
Moon is in detriment in Capricorn but also in its night triplicity (Ptolemy) and this particular Moon is also OOB so it might show a few more of its Capricorn traits than usual. The Moon is separating from an opposition to Mercury (also OOB but only for a few more hours), separating from a trine to Uranus, applying a sextile to Neptune R and about to conjoin Pluto R. We could have been wearing our emotions (Moon-Mercury) on our sleeve but have been unable to communicate them clearly (Neptune R) if not in short, unexpected bursts (Uranus) with the risk of being misunderstood (Neptune R) and the pressure could really build up (Pluto) as we strive to leave the past behind (Saturn ruled Moon) in a total reinvention of our former selves.
The above reasoning could be valid on a personal level for those charts interested in this lunation. However, on a mundane level, where Moon represents the “people” we might say that the (fake – Neptune) news or information is firmly in the hands of our governments (Mercury combust by Sun) but the “people” are gaining more and more power as can be seen by various public demonstrations when not uprisings around the world.
This lunation still has only one planet (Jupiter) in the Fire element and four in the Earth element, hopefully we’ll be able to control those emotions when they actually burst out. The Modalities are well-balanced.
Saturn, dispositor of this Full Moon, is retrograde in Aquarius (a sign it rules), it is separating from a very recent trine to Venus in Gemini steadying those, often, over-the-top social outings or perhaps not, since the square aspect to Uranus in Taurus is still well within orb.
Sun is conjunct Fixed Star Castor which V. Robson attributes to “blows, stabs, shootings and shipwrecks as well as government work dealing with foreign affairs”. Sun is also parallel Venus and both are controparallel Pluto, broadly speaking power issues about money/art/ego, not necessarily in that order. Adding surrealism to the whole lunation is the Jupiter parallel Neptune aspect.
This Full Moon falls on the traditional 10th-4th axis, work vs home, public vs private, one parent vs another, rigidity vs flexibility etc. The persons most affected by this lunation will be those with planets or angles between 18-24° of the Cardinal signs of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn.
Full Moons are peak energy times, “now or never” moments regarding any projects we have initiated or intentions set at the preceding New Moon fourteen days ago.
In his book “Moon Phase Astrology” author Raven Kaldera calls this the “Grandmother’s Moon” and her interest in in protecting and caring for her family. She is a ruler and this Full Moon is archetype of the Elder in all her fullness. On this Moon he suggests that we honour our Elders, alive or dead.
The Sabian symbol for the Moon at 22° Capricorn: “By accepting defeat gracefully, a general reveals nobility of character.” Indicating the realisation that one may grow through defeat as well as, and perhaps more than, through success.
For the antiscion point at 9° Sagittarius: “A mother leads her small child step by step up a steep stairway.” Indicating the need in any social situation to assist the less evolved in their management of the problems which society requires its members to solve.
For the Sun at 22° Cancer: “A young woman awaiting a sailboat.” Indicating the longing for transcendent happiness in the soul opened to great dreams.
“Your intellect may be confused, but your emotions will never lie to you.” Roger Ebert
