• NEW MOON/SOLAR ECLIPSE IN LEO 12 AUGUST 2026

  • New Moon in LeoNEW MOON/SOLAR ECLIPSE IN LEO

A time to shine but not for all…..

There will be a New Moon/Total Solar Eclipse at 20°02’ Leo (antiscion 09°58’ Taurus).

The eclipse will be visible across Greenland, Iceland, northern Russia, the Atlantic Ocean, Spain, and a small corner of Portugal. Many other places in the Northern Hemisphere will experience a partial solar eclipse that day, including parts of the northern U.S. (from Alaska to North Carolina), most of Canada, much of Europe, and northwestern Africa.
For many along the western part of the eclipse path (in mainland Europe and Africa), the Sun will set while it’s still partially eclipsed, creating an opportunity to see a sunset eclipse.

This is the third of four Eclipses this year (2 solar and 2 lunar). Eclipses take place when the Sun, Moon and Earth find themselves closely aligned.

The effects of eclipses can be quite unpredictable (a “what-the-heck effect”), sometimes stressing emotions or bringing unexpected events into our lives, at other times they can go seemingly unnoticed. Some astrologers say that the effects of the eclipses manifest for as long as the duration of the eclipse itself, transmuting the minutes of the duration into days. Although of different Saros series, eclipses occur at similar degrees of the same sign in 19-year cycles as they move in a retrograde motion through the zodiac. Thus, they have effect on the same house polarity in your natal chart (or on any personal planets or angles that fall in a 3° orb for conjunctions and oppositions, allowing 5° if Sun or Moon is involved).

The last Solar Eclipse near the degree of the present one took place at 19° Leo on 11 August 2018 (of a different Saros series and not respecting the 19-year gap between eclipses on similar degrees).

what was going on in your life then?

This Eclipse belongs to the Saros series 10 South. To which Bernadette Brady ascribes “breaking out of a very negative situation where no hope can be seen to a more positive space containing many options. A worry affecting a person may suddenly clear. The solution will be shown by the Cosmos and needs to be taken up without too much delay.”

This is a South Node eclipse which Celeste Teal likens to a feeling of energy leak or drain and that something is required to wrap up a previous phase of experience.

The lunation chart itself has Sun and Moon standing alone without any Ptolemaic aspects to other planets, onlookers of the chaos below and seemingly unable to operate. Sun however is in domicile and strong, Moon is peregrine and hidden by the Sun.

There is a Grand Trine in the Air Element between Pluto R, Uranus and Venus – perhaps we are living in our heads and telling ourselves that we’re fine despite the disruption and bedlam all around us. Neptune R is plugging into the Venus leg of the GT via a separating opposition from Venus – we’ve definitely been fooled into a sense of false harmony and goodwill. Jupiter and Mercury are also plugging into the Pluto R leg of the GT via a separating opposition also leading us to believe that the worst may be over.

However, OOB Mars newly entered and in fall in Cancer is the apex of a Cardinal T-square with a Venus-Neptune R base. Cardinal T-squares are action-oriented, but this is not a nice Mars, more so because of its OOB status and the contra parallel aspect with OOB Pluto R as well as the approaching quincunx between the two planets. There’s a lot of uncertainty (Neptune R) about how to keep diplomatic relationships (Venus) when the desire to fight (Mars OOB) for survival (Pluto OOB R) is paramount to all. Saturn R contra parallel Venus makes it difficult to feel any joy too.

OOB Mars is parallel Fixed Star Hamal, according to Ptolemy of the nature of Mars and Saturn – indicating violence but also disrespect and ruin according to Robson.

New Moons are times when the Sun and Moon are conjoined in the identical degree of the same sign and this causes the Moon to remain hidden from our view.

It’s a great moment to set intentions for the coming month regarding the matters of the house where it falls in our natal chart. New Moons can be seen as moments of “seeding”.

The Moon in Leo finds itself on the 5-11th axis of the zodiac wheel (Leo-Aquarius), so, me vs them, warm-hearted vs unemotional, artist vs scientist etc.

In his book “Moon Phase Astrology”, author Raven Kaldera describes this moon as the

    “Sun Child’s Moon”

a creature of smiling, radiant light. The people born under this moon phase in Leo have a tremendous zest for life and love to be looked at, making people gasp and drop their jaws as they charm the pants off them!

During the Sun Child’s Moon he invites us to concentrate on our own creativity in any endeavour we might undertake since this is a good time to shine, even if you’re not used to the limelight, or to feel special to others in some way.

A Leo New Moon imbues us with optimism in the house in which it occurs in our natal theme bestowing a desire to be recognised and feel special in some way regarding the affairs of that house with Leo on the cusp.

If the lunation makes an aspect to a planet in our natal chart then that planetary energy is awakened and energized and intentions should be related to that planet, sign and house. If we consciously choose to harness the power of the New Moon and the energy of any planet it aspects (tight orbs no more than 2-3°) we become capable of noteworthy new beginnings in that area of our life. It will most involve those people with planets/angles between17-23° of the fixed signs of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius.

The Sabian symbol for the Sun and Moon at 21° Leo: “Intoxicated chickens dizzily flap their wings trying to fly.” Indicating the often negative and at times ludicrous first experience with spiritual feelings.

For the antiscion point at 10° Taurus: “A Red Cross nurse.” Indicating the compassionate linking of all men.

“Better to illuminate than merely to shine, to deliver to others contemplated truths than merely to contemplate.” Thomas Aquinas

What are your intentions for this New Moon?
