FULL MOON IN AQUARIUS

…the friendship Moon

The Full Moon this month falls at 09°15’ of the sign of Aquarius (antiscion 20°45’ Scorpio), a Fixed, Air sign ruled by Saturn (traditional ruler) and Uranus (modern ruler).

Full Moons are times of harvest and completion

when things concerning the house in the natal chart with Aquarius on its cusp can’t possibly get any better or any worse for that matter.

This Full Moon has 5 planets in the Fixed modality and 5 in the Earth element, matters should be practical and rather at a standstill also confirmed by this lunation chart having only one planet in the Air element and one in the Cardinal Modality, looking ahead is difficult, going forward also. This is further emphasised by the wide separating opposition between Mars and Saturn R and the almost exact opposition between Mercury and Saturn R. Constipation at best, broken bones at worst are only a couple of interpretations that one might give to these aspects on a more personal level if your chart is affected. On a more global level, frustration and anger as plans and schemes seem to have hit a road block.

As in all Full Moon charts the Moon and the Sun are in exact opposition to each other, the head (our leaders) and the heart (the people) are at odds. Adding to this picture is a square aspect that the Sun-Moon opposition is applying to Jupiter in Taurus. This configuration is known as a T-square, in this case it is in the Fixed signs. Square aspects are notoriously difficult to manoeuvre, a T-square even more so since the solution is either in the focal point of the aspect, in this case Jupiter which could lead to both parties (Moon and Sun) being overly indulgent with themselves, failing to see the other party’s point of view and seeking to gain control of whatever matters the focal planet involves. Jupiter in Taurus usually involves finances and comforts. Another solution to the T-square formation is often found in the sign opposite the focal point, in this case in the sign of Scorpio where we have no planets transiting there at the moment. Scorpio suggests secrecy and hidden power. To add to the mix Jupiter is also exactly conjunct Fixed Star Menkar, which according to Robson covers such matters as deceit, dishonesty, imprisonment and bankruptcy.

The Moon in this lunation is ruled by Saturn, presently retrograde and not particularly at its best in the sign of Pisces, I already mentioned the applying aspect of Mercury and the separating aspect of Mars to Saturn R. The Moon is also //Pluto. The other ruler of Aquarius is Uranus from which Venus is in a separating square and to which the Sun is // by declination, Venus is also //Mars. With the two Lights of this lunation in tight aspect by declination to Uranus (Sun) and Pluto (Moon) I believe that matters could become very dangerous over the next 15 days or so as there could be an new increase in instability in the world. I find it rather significative that the film Oppenheimer is now airing in the cinemas with so much talk about nuclear danger around the world (Ukraine the power station, Japan releasing radio-active water into the seas around the country’s coast). Let’s remember that the transiting lunar nodes are still in a Cardinal square aspect to Pluto R this in itself talks about power struggles as I mentioned in my previous posts.

Aquarius is the sign of friendship and group activity, it’s about being independent and inventive whilst being part of a larger group of like-minded people as we work towards a common goal.

The Full Moon falls on the 11th-5th – Aquarius-Leo – axis in the zodiac so whilst the Moon is illuminating our friendship zone the Sun in Leo is shining in our house of individuality wanting us to sparkle on our own…will we be able to find a compromise between the two?

Being a sign (Aquarius) with two rulers then we might say that the Moon’s passage in this sign could result in two different types of reactions: Moon-Saturn is notoriously a combination where our feelings are more than dampened and when we are given the opportunity to take a harsh look at where we’re putting them and perhaps why. These thoughts can also manifest as a sinking or generally depressed feeling. Moon-Uranus is a jump-start to our emotions with perhaps lightening mood changes and wanting to belong but at the same time to be alone or independent from others emotionally, the “I’m yours but don’t get too close type of feeling!”

In fact, Raven Kaldera in his book “Moon Phase Astrology” calls this Full Moon phase “the Friendship Moon” and he invites us to hang out with our friends during this period, asking others and ourselves just what value friendship has for us in our lives.

The Sabian symbol for the Moon at 10° Aquarius: “A man who had for time become the embodiment of a popular ideal is made to realise that as a person he is not this ideal.” Indicating the need to deal with human beings as persona rather than as screens upon which one projects one’s dream and ideal.

For the antiscion at 21° Scorpio: “Obeying his conscious, a soldier resists orders.” Indicating the readiness to face the results of a refusal to follow the authoritarian patterns of an aggressive society.

The Sabian Symbol for the Sun at 10° Leo “Early morning dew sparkles as sunlight floods the field.” Indicating the exalted feeling that rises within the soul of the individual who has successfully passed through the long night which has tested his strength and his faith.
