• NEW MOON IN VIRGO ON 17 SEPTEMBER 2020

  • Those details may not be pleasant to hear

The New Moon will occur at 25°01’ Virgo (antiscion 4°59’ Aries).

The New Moon will be making an exact trine aspect to a resolute, and almost stationary, although yet still retrograde Saturn, adding responsibility to this detail-oriented lunation. This could make us more aware of our health as infection rates of Covid-19 once more rise around Europe and in many other countries. The applying quincunx (tension) of the Sun-Moon combination to a retrograde Mars adds the niggling feeling that perhaps our past actions weren’t made in our best interest with too much freedom and feistiness having jeopardised our attempts at getting a handle on the pandemic.

A pandemic which could raise its ugly head again as retrograde Mars squares in turn Saturn, Pluto and Jupiter in Capricorn thus recomposing the “Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse” as I heard them referred to in a recent Zoom meeting (1).

Likewise, the applying quincunx (tension) from Mercury (dispositor of this lunation) to a retrograde Neptune might give the sensation of having deceived ourselves or of having had wanted to let our thoughts wander away from the practical into the fantasy, lending ourselves to believe “everything will be OK” especially with the exact Mercury-Jupiter square leading us further up the path of optimism and farther away from reality.

Fortunately keeping us with our feet on the ground are the 6 planets in the Earth element (3 of which still retrograde) and the 5 planets in the Cardinal “let’s do it” modality. We could be practical and do something about it if we so desire.

The house axis involved in this lunation is the 6th-12th, Virgo-Pisces involving such matters as discrimination vs universality, order vs chaos and criticism vs compassion. The New Moon will involve those persons with planets/angles between 23-27° of the mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces).

New Moons are times when the Sun and Moon are conjoined in the identical degree of the same sign and this causes the Moon to remain hidden from our view.

It’s a great moment to set intentions for the coming month regarding the matters of the house where it falls in our natal chart. These lunations can be seen as moments of “seeding”.

“The New Moon, of course, is in the sign of the Sun, and the double emphasis on that sign is said to have meaning in terms of what we experience that month. The Sun’s sign now given extra emphasis by the addition of the Moon, is a seasonal theme.” Author M.K. Simms reminds us in her book “Moon Tides, Soul Passages.

Whilst astrologer Raven Kaldera calls this the

    “Maiden’s Moon”

during which we are invited to search solace in solitude rather than desperately trying to fill the room with other auras.

In Virgo, the New Moon focusses on our welfare (both physical and mental) and asks us to choose between what nurtures us and what harms or poisons us giving order to the chaos (Pisces) that surrounds us.

The Sabian symbol for the Sun and Moon at 26° Virgo: “A boy with a censer serves the priest near the altar.” Indicating the first stage of actual participation in the great ritual of planetary evolution.

For the antiscion at 5° Aries: “A triangle with wings.” Indicating the capacity for self-transcending.

“To change undesirable behaviours we see in the world, we must change the thinking that leads to those behaviours.” Donald L. Hicks, Look into the stillness
