• NEW MOON IN AQUARIUS 24 JANUARY 2020

  • …time to try something new

    This friendly, sociable, yet emotionally detached New Moon occurs at 4°21’ Aquarius (antiscion 25°39’ Scorpio).

    Another Saturn-ruled (traditional) Moon, with Uranus as co-ruler in modern astrology and the 4th of six New Moons at 4° of the relative subsequent signs. This lunation will also be just a couple of degrees past a square to Uranus in Taurus so those of you with planets or angles between 2-6° of the fixed signs (Taurus-Leo-Scorpio-Aquarius) may feel rather edgy and excited in the days prior to the actual New Moon itself as a deep craving for everything new and different invades you.

    Saturn, the traditional ruler of Aquarius, is now separating, but still well within orb, from the conjunction to Pluto which took place only 12 days ago.

    The New Moon falls on the 11th-5th house axis in traditional astrology; participating in groups vs individual creations, democrats vs autocrats, scientists vs artists etc.

    Whilst this New Moon might be used to release emotional attachments that restrict our freedom in some way it also reminds us that we are not alone and that by involving ourselves with others we can change the world. Another point to consider during this Moon phase might be how to strengthen your network of friends (11th house) as you reflect on your own unique talents (5th house).

    Since New Moons are all about beginnings perhaps there may be some glimpse of hope and relief after the recent lunar eclipse in Cancer and the important Saturn-Pluto conjunction. The very recent aspect of Moon square to Uranus indicates however that matters are still far from stable particularly since Venus, the dispositor of transiting Uranus, is just about to square Mars in Sagittarius after a very recent and more fortunate sextile to Jupiter in Capricorn before snuggling up real tight to Neptune in Pisces.

    Loosely translated it could be something along these lines for those who have natal charts involved; shortly before the lunation you could find yourselves in a rather rebellious mood (Moon square Uranus), craving excitement and extraordinariness (Sun square Uranus) with a totally personal (perhaps even weird) idea of love that has ballooned out of all proportion (Venus-Jupiter) only to discover that this desire (Venus) could reveal itself as rather demanding (Mars) so it might be a better idea to escape into fantasy land (Venus conjunct Neptune) on our own for a while.

    New Moons are also excellent moments to do a reality check, asking ourselves where we are at the present moment in time and where we would like to go, particularly regarding the matters of the house where the New Moon falls in your chart and thus set our relative intentions for the month ahead.

    Raven Kaldera in his book “Moon Phase Astrology” calls this the

    Father’s Son Moon

    He suggests that all New Moon archetypes are children and youths and, as such, that there is a youthful quality to their emotional natures. Thus, the Father’s Son represents the Golden Boy, being the father’s heir and hope. On this New Moon, Kaldera suggests that we examine our feelings about our own personal father (or mother if she was career-minded or externally-orientated instead of concentrating on the home). Or, we could look at our attitudes concerning the “Fathers of Society” and how “their” rules and regulations have or have not any value for us at this present time. However, if we are at unease with these guidelines, we might ask ourselves whether we have had or have the courage to openly disclaim them or if it pays us in some way (and which way) to follow them blindly.

    The Sabian symbol for 5° Aquarius is “A council of ancestors is seen implementing the efforts of a young leader.” Indicating the root foundation of past performances which power and sustain whatever decision is made in a crisis by an individual.

    For the antiscion at 26° Scorpio: “American Indians making camp after moving into a new territory.” Indicating the ability to adjust swiftly to a new situation by tuning into its requirements.
