NEW MOON IN TAURUS

feeling comfortable isn’t always the best thing….

It’s time to set your intentions for the New Moon at 28°25’ Taurus (antiscion 01°35’ Leo). The Moon is exalted in this Venus-ruled, Fixed Earth sign.

With 5 planets in the Earth sign of Taurus this is a very practical, hands-on chart for the lunation and consequently its also a very stubborn chart with 6 planets in the Fixed signs. It seems like we want to hold onto our status quo and not move out of our comfort zone.

The New Moon is separating from a sextile to Neptune and applying a sextile to Mars at the very end of his tether in the sign of Cancer. We’ve had the opportunity to loosen our hold on practicality and security and now we may risk getting a little frazzled as things move more quickly and nurturing may cost us emotionally more than we’re willing to give. Moon is also parallel to Mars and both are c// Pluto by declination, another hint that we might get a little too obsessive about having our own way on an emotional level.

Venus, dispositor of this lunation is OOB in the sign of Cancer and Moon and Venus are in mutual reception (each in the other’s sign), Venus will hopefully have a soothing effect on all that nervy tension we’re likely to be carrying around on the days surrounding this New Moon. Venus is also in a wide separating trine to Saturn and a wide applying sextile to Neptune both of these aspects could either down-tone or enforce the Venus dynamic.

Not to be overlooked is the Jupiter-Pluto square and the Pluto square lunar nodal axis with Jupiter being conjunct the North Lunar Node. This aspect has been amply covered in my recent Jupiter square Pluto article posted earlier this week on this page.

Saturn c// Mercury and Jupiter might make words stick in our throat and probably for the better with expansive Jupiter involved!

The New Moon falls on the 2-8th axis of the traditional zodiac (Taurus-Scorpio) which involves matters such as security vs temptation, calm vs crisis, sex vs taboos etc. It is significant for those who have planets or angles between 26-30° of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio or Aquarius.

So, part of our intentions for this moment might involve building things (projects, relationships or whatever) to last by creating stability in that part of our lives illuminated by this New Moon. To do this we need to listen to our body and follow our heart.

Author Raven Kaldera, in his book “Moon Phase Astrology”, calls this New Moon the

“Dryads Moon”

 the Dryads are the quiet, shy spirits of the trees, and he states that “this Moon phase in the earthiest of the astrological signs comes forth in a form that is as close to Nature that a human can possibly be”. He suggests that on this day we should steep ourselves in Nature by going for a walk or just sitting in the garden or park when possible.

The Sabian symbol for 29° Taurus: “Two cobblers working at a table.” Indicating the two-fold character of man’s mature understanding.

For the antiscion at 2° Leo: “An epidemic of mumps.” Indicating the spreading power of individual crises through a collectivity.
