  • New Moon in VirgoNEW MOON IN VIRGO

Are all the details out in the open?

On the 2-3rd of this month (depending in which part of the world you are) there will be a New Moon at 11°04’ Virgo, a Mutable, Earth sign ruled by Mercury (antiscion 18°56’ Aries).

A lunation chart with only one planet (Mercury) in the Fire element and heavy (6 planets) in the Mutable signs. This may indicate a lack of optimism but a need to have one’s opinions respected at the same time (Mercury in Leo) together with being overyielding and too malleable (Sun, Moon, Jupiter and Mars in Mutable signs – as well as Saturn and Neptune) and thus prone to mentally adapting oneself to the other’s way of looking at things (4 planets in Mercury ruled signs).

The New Moon is applying an opposition to Saturn but Saturn’s position in Pisces and the fact that is also retrograde doesn’t sit well with all that focus on detail that the New Moon’s position in Virgo might indicate. Saturn may be craving a more flexible reality than what he’s normally associated with. Jupiter and Saturn are of course still in a square aspect bringing us back to the time of their conjunction in 2020 and putting us all in a sort of testing arena where we can see if what was initiated or came up during the conjunction still holds true of if we need to adjust be this on a global or at a more personal level.

Mercury, dispositor of the lunation, has recently turned direct in Leo and is applying a square aspect to Uranus R in Taurus. Shocking revelations may push us out of our comfort zone and they may come from someone we respect or in a position of leadership, particularly since Uranus R is in a separating trine to Pluto R in Capricorn which of course represents establishments, plutocrats and their perhaps (by many) hoped for “disappearance”.

The house axis involved in this lunation is the 6th-12th, Virgo-Pisces involving such matters as discrimination vs universality, order vs chaos and criticism vs compassion. The New Moon will involve those persons with planets/angles between 09-13° of the mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces).

New Moons are times when the Sun and Moon are conjoined in the identical degree of the same sign and this causes the Moon to remain hidden from our view.

It’s a great moment to set intentions for the coming month regarding the matters of the house where it falls in our natal chart. These lunations can be seen as moments of “seeding”.

“The New Moon, of course, is in the sign of the Sun, and the double emphasis on that sign is said to have meaning in terms of what we experience that month. The sign the Sun is in now is given extra emphasis by the addition of the Moon, it’s a seasonal theme.” Author M.K. Simms reminds us in her book “Moon Tides, Soul Passages.

Whilst astrologer Raven Kaldera calls this the

    “Maiden’s Moon”

during which we are invited to search solace in solitude rather than desperately trying to fill the room with other auras.

In Virgo, the New Moon focusses on our welfare (both physical and mental) and asks us to choose between what nurtures us and what harms or poisons us (Neptune) giving order to the chaos (Pisces) that surrounds us.

The Sabian symbol for 12° Virgo: “After the wedding, the groom snatches the veil away from his bride.” Indicating the penetrating and unveiling power of the trained mind.

For the antiscion at 19° Aries: “The ‘magic carpet’ of oriental imagery.” Indicating the use of creative imagination.

“People don’t want to hear the truth because they don’t want their illusions destroyed”. F. Nietszche

What are your intentions for this New Moon?
