NEW MOON IN SCORPIO
Will confusion trump obsession?
The New Moon will occur at 09°35’ Scorpio (antiscion 20°25’ Aquarius) and will be the 1st of a series of 5 at that degree of the relative ensuing signs.
New Moons are the time when we are encouraged to set our intentions for the month to come regarding the house where it falls in our natal charts.
The New Moon is applying a trine aspect to a retrograde Saturn in Pisces, emotions won’t be easy to keep under control this coming month.
Mars and Pluto (traditional and modern dispositors of the lunation) are in exact opposition to each other and both are on the final “now or never” degree of the respective sign they are transiting. It will be very difficult to keep damage under control since Mars is part of a Grand Water Trine involving Mercury and Neptune and Pluto plugs into this Grand Trine by opposition to the most volatile aspect of it, Uranus also opposes the Mercury part of the Grand Trine as well as making a sextile aspect to Neptune. There will be intentional mistruths and deception particularly where warfare is concerned together with the need to move quickly and unexpectedly if one side wants to have the upper hand (Mars-Pluto opposition). Mars is also c//Mercury which further hints at the need to move quickly and possible to make hasty decisions.
An OOB Venus is applying an opposition to a retrograde Jupiter and both planets are peregrine, this indicates more than anything the desire to overdo things, perhaps self-righteousness fogs the brain and makes one party believe they are in the right when facts show that this is not the case.
Worth noting are five planets (Mercury, Mars, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto) all at the last five degrees of their respective signs, a cycle is ending and it certainly looks like it will go out with a bang.
The Lunation chart is heavy with the Water element and this, if nothing else, will allow us to give form to our emotions but only one planet in the Fire/Air elements won’t allow us to see further than our own noses or give us the kick start we need to get moving. Four planets each in the Fixed and Mutable modalities further confirm our “stop and go” behaviour over the next month.
This New Moon will be on the Scorpio/Taurus axis (two fixed signs, the first Water the second Earth) which corresponds to the 8th-2nd houses in traditional astrology: what others value vs what I value, wanting to tear down the known to make room for new things vs wanting to maintain the status quo, what I share with others vs what I want for myself, emotional storms vs calm, temptation vs security etc.
It will be particularly important for people with planets or angles in this and the other fixed signs of Aquarius, Taurus and Leo (keep orbs to 2° and less) giving more importance to conjunctions and oppositions.
Raven Kaldera in his book “Moon Phase Astrology” calls this New Moon in Scorpio “the Raging Moon” and during this period he suggests that “this is an excellent time to work in the shade, plumbing to the depths of our own psyche and learning to love the darker side or our soul by accepting ourselves for what we are without attempting to change”. He adds that “understanding is the point, not healing, but an understanding that leads to compassion of self.”
The Sabian symbol for 10° Scorpio: “A fellowship supper reunites old comrades.” Indicating the overtones of human relationships based on a community of work or experience.
For the antiscion point at 21° Aquarius: “A disappointed and disillusioned woman courageously faces a seemingly empty life.” Indicating the capacity to meet emotionally upsetting experiences in human relationships with strength of character and personal integrity.
“Someone I loved once gave me a box full of darkness. It took me years to understand that this too, was a gift.” Mary Oliver
