  • NEW MOON IN CANCER

    heading home…right?

The New Moon will occur in the maternal sign of Cancer at 7°22’ (antiscion 22°38’ Gemini) on the 28th or 29th of June depending on where in the world you find yourself.

Being in its own sign this is obviously a very dignified Moon, loving and caring, or perhaps not since the Moon is also very OOB and still heading North. OOB Moons are known to have a very personal idea of what mothering might mean.

The New Moon is separating by only a few minutes of arc from a square aspect to Jupiter in Aries, optimism and well-being are still a big part of the picture as is a desperate need to find the truth at least on an emotional level.

The Elemental quality of the lunation chart is well-balanced but the Modalities are rather top-heavy Cardinal wise, we’re eager to forge ahead and get things done.

Mars, which is always a planet to keep an eye on, is still in its home sign of Aries, applying a square aspect to Pluto R (perfecting on 1-2 July at 27°46’) and separating from a sextile to Saturn R. Forging ahead regardless (Mars) could result in a power struggle or in tremendous energy that needs to be bridled (Pluto) this actually could be a burst of energy resulting from the recent sextile to Saturn that had the effect of thwarting that Martian energy a little too much.

Sun is also parallel Pluto again hinting about power issues.

The nodal axis is forming a fixed modality T-Square with a Saturn R apex. As far as responsibility is concerned regarding which road ahead we should be taking…then the ball’s definitely in our court.

New Moons are the moment we set our intentions for the month ahead regarding the house where the New Moon falls in our chart but we now have four of ten planets transiting in this sign making it a very emotionally energetic period particularly for the Cardinal signs of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn.

Raven Kaldera in his book “Moon Phases” calls this the “Daughter’s Moon” and likens it to the myth of Demeter and her daughter Persephone who was abducted into the Underworld by Hades (Pluto). He therefore attributes painful conflicts with family members to this and all the other Cancer moon phases and on this Moon he recommends that we examine our relationships with close ones, especially those which involve nurturing received or given.

It falls on the 4th-10th house axis in traditional astrology, the private vs public, mother vs father, fluidity vs rigidity etc.

This lunation will most involve those persons with planets or angles between 5-10° of the Cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn).

The Sabian symbol for 8° Cancer: “A group of rabbits dressed in human clothes walk as if on parade.” Indicating the tendency in all forms of life to imitate higher forms was a stimulus to growth.

The Sabian symbol for the antiscion at 23° Gemini: “Three fledglings in a nest high in a tree.” Indicating the growth of spiritually creative processes in an at least relatively integrated mind.

“I can only note that the past is beautiful because one never realises an emotion at the time. It expands later, and thus we don’t have complete emotions about the present, only about the past.”  V. Woolf

What intentions will you set for this New Moon?
