NEW MOON AND PARTIAL SOLAR ECLIPSE IN SCORPIO
How deep are your feelings, how dark are your thoughts….
There will be a New Moon and a partial Solar eclipse at 2°00’ Scorpio (antiscion 28°00’ Aquarius) on the 25th of October.
This is the second partial solar eclipse of 2022.
The partial eclipse will be visible in the northern hemisphere in Africa, Asia, Europe, and Guernsey in the United Kingdom and will begin in Iceland to be seen at its maximum from Russia (1).
The New Moon will be in a tight conjunction to Venus, in her detriment in Scorpio which looks to me a bit like trying to come over nice but decidedly for one’s own benefit.
New Moons are the time when we are encouraged to set our intentions for the month to come.
The dispositor of this New Moon is an OOB Mars separating from a square to Neptune R and with Mercury in an applying trine aspect, Mercury is also quincunx Neptune R. Mars is moving very, very slowly in preparation of its retrograde station at the end of the month, it is also peregrine so lots of mental energy (not always for a good outcome) put into plans, tactics and scheming, Gemini can be ruthless since sentiments have little place in the Air signs. All this makes me think that feelings of doubt and inadequacy could lead to deceitful actions with a penchant for apparently airing one’s views without actually understanding what those views might be or how they might work out. The quincunx Mercury-Neptune will hopefully force out the truth by exposing the lies. OOB Mars is also quincunx Pluto and the two planets are also in c// this energy really needs to be handled carefully in order to keep power struggles completely under control.
With 4 planets in the Water element there’s definitely a lot of empathy in the lunation chart as a whole but three of these planets are in the Fixed sign of Scorpio – being sympathetic won’t be all-inclusive – it will definitely have its own rules (5 planets in Fixed Modality).
Now for more about the partial Solar Eclipse:
According to Bernadette Brady this eclipse belongs to the Saros series “6 South” and concerns “being forceful and taking power. It has a manic flavour to it and there will be a great show of strength.”
With the eclipse reaching its maximum over Russia we are all praying that matters don’t go totally south.
There has not been a Solar Eclipse on this degree in decades but there was a Solar Eclipse at 1° Scorpio on 23 October 2014 of a different Saros series.
What was going on in your life then?
This eclipse will mostly concern people with planets or angles at 0-6° of the Fixed signs of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius, BUT eclipses have wild-card characteristics and sometimes, even if your natal chart is involved, they do not manifest in your life through noticeable events.
The New Moon and Solar eclipse will be on the Scorpio/Taurus axis (two fixed signs, the first Water the second Earth) which corresponds to the 8th-2nd houses in traditional astrology: what others value vs what I value, wanting to tear down the known to make room for new things vs wanting to maintain the status quo, what I share with others vs what I want for myself etc.
Brady has classified the eclipses in the Saros cycle into precise characteristics according to the planetary configurations present as the moment the eclipse was born (for those interested in learning more about her theory please consult her book which I’ve included in the reference section).
According to her, the effects of solar eclipses are more external and deal with events that surround the person, that is, they bring in events that we ourselves have not precipitated. Eclipses are spotlights that shine on our life-path, they catch you in mid-action illuminating that area of your life (house) in which they occur. Whatever has been shoved aside or ignored will turn up for your attention and this could be experienced as dramatic and emotional whilst at the same time giving you the opportunity to deal with it, or not, it depends entirely on you.
Raven Kaldera in his book “Moon Phase Astrology” calls this New Moon in Scorpio “the Raging Moon” and during this period he suggests that “this is an excellent time to work in the shade, plumbing to the depths of our own psyche and learning to love the darker side or our soul by accepting ourselves for what we are without attempting to change”. He adds that “understanding is the point, not healing, but an understanding that leads to compassion of self.”
The Sabian symbol for 2° Scorpio: “A delicate bottle of perfume lies broken, releasing its fragrance.” Indicating the accidental nature of opportunities that impel one to break free from a past, the remembrance of which is still poignant and cherished.
For the antiscion at 28° Aquarius: “A tree felled and sawed to ensure a supply of wood for the winter.” Indicating the knowledge and skill used in its natural surroundings for the satisfaction of vital basic needs.
“Someone I loved once gave me a box full of darkness. It took me years to understand that this too, was a gift.” Mary Oliver
