• A good time for the monkey minds to re-organize their thoughts

Only a few hours before exiting its OOB status, Mercury stations retrograde at 24°43’ Gemini (antiscion 5°17’ Cancer), one of the signs that it rules together with Virgo.

The retrograde period will end on 22nd June when Mercury stations direct at 16°07’ Gemini.

The last time Mercury was retrograde in Gemini was between May and June 2015. What was going on in your life then?

Mercury entered Gemini on the 4th of May and became OOB on the 8th so we’ve had a good three weeks to get used to this highly charged mental energy.

Mercury is obviously in his element here, a rational and agile thinker open to new ideas and experimentations, puns and intellectual flexibility are also part of the game although Mercury is also the prankster of the zodiac and here words could be used to alter the truth in some way! Mercury also rules travel and the OOB status could have caused disruption in this sector too.

Mercury will be stationing very close to an exact square with Neptune and will transit the planet again first backwards and then in forward motion, remaining in orb of the aspect for more or less the whole retrograde period. Neptune dissolves and confuses, another red flag warning us to keep our senses alert to any kind of deception in the media or otherwise.

Gemini and Virgo, both ruled by Mercury, may respond differently to the signs their ruling planet moves through on its journey backwards. Virgo, being an Earth sign finds the Air signs (in this case, Gemini) rather too rational and in the head and this could produce a bout of criticism from precise Virgo who likes planning on a more practical level. Gemini, an Air sign, is obviously quite comfortable with its ruler transiting the sign, appreciating this logical, future-oriented way of thinking and the need to review recent plans. Of course, the retrograde movement alters the way Mercury is expressed and makes it more an internal, inward journey rather than an expansive outward thrust which however could (and probably will) manifest as delays and hiccups in all types of plans.

As always, the usual suggestions apply to the Mercury retrograde: great for putting “re” in front of everything, planning but waiting for the direct station, before acting. Expecting possible delays in transport of all kinds, upheavals in the planning of appointments, electronic equipment going haywire etc. Avoiding signing contracts (where possible, but again contracts are between people so it’s a retrograde season for everyone and if its “bad” for one it may be “good” for the other party).

The Sabian symbol for 25° Gemini: “Frost covered trees against winter skies.” Indicating the revelation of archetypal form and essential rhythm of existence.

For the antiscion at 6° Cancer: “Game birds feathering their nests.” Indicating an instinctual dedication of self to new forms of life.

“Have you made a choice in your past which was right at the time, but once you had a chance to think about it, you wished you could reverse your decision or amend it? Rethinking gives you permission to use your thoughts to change your mind. Take what is and spin it around to give you a new review and fresh perspective.” Susan C. Young
