  • New Moon in CancerOOB NEW MOON IN CANCER ON 5-6 JULY 2024

    emotionally intense…….

The New Moon will occur at 14°23’ Cancer (antiscion 15°37° Gemini). The Moon will also be OOB making it an exceptionally sensitive Moon.

The lunation chart has an equal distribution between the Modalities but it has a heavy Water emphasis as far as the Elements are concerned with only one planet in the Fire element. Emotionally charged as is fitting for a Cancer New Moon but not necessarily intuitive.

The lunation chart itself is very flowing with the New Moon and Venus all trine Saturn R and each applying a sextile to Mars, slow progress is now possible, and Mars in Taurus gives us the opportunity to move forward in a realistic way. However, Moon (our emotions, the people in mundane charts) may be acting in a rather over-the-top manner given its OOB status.

The only harsh Ptolemaic aspect in this chart is the separating opposition between Mercury and Pluto which could indicate that someone or something is trying to modify our way of thinking or that we might be able to finally get to the bottom of that irksome problem that’s been tormenting us for ages.

Declination-wise we have Mercury c//Jupiter (with Mercury in Leo don’t be too cocky), Venus//Sun both c//Pluto (somewhat arrogant).

New Moons are the moment we set our intentions for the month ahead regarding the house where the New Moon falls in our chart. It falls on the 4th-10th house axis in traditional astrology, the private vs public, mother vs father, fluidity vs rigidity etc.

Raven Kaldera in his book “Moon Phases” calls this the “Daughter’s Moon” and likens it to the myth of Demeter and her daughter Persephone who was abducted into the Underworld by Hades (Pluto). He therefore attributes painful conflicts with family members to this and all the other Cancer moon phases and on this Moon he recommends that we examine our relationships with close ones, especially those which involve nurturing received or given.

The Sabian symbol for 15° Cancer: “In a sumptuous dining hall guests relax after partaking of a huge banquet.” Indicating the need that exists at an early stage of human growth to materialise the concept of fulfilment.

For the antiscion at 16° Gemini: “A woman activist in an emotional speech dramatizing her cause.” Indicating a passionate response to a deeply felt new experience.

“I can only note that the past is beautiful because one never realises an emotion at the time. It expands later, and thus we don’t have complete emotions about the present, only about the past.”  V. Woolf
