How can we see clearly?
There will be a New Moon at 23°03’ Pisces (antiscion 6°57’ Libra) and this will be the last of the series of New Moons at 23° which started in the sign of Libra last year.
New Moons are notoriously the best moment to set fresh intentions for the month ahead. This one falls on the 12th-6th house axis (Pisces-Virgo) in traditional astrology, so themes such as chaos vs order, compassion vs criticism and wholeness vs perfection come to mind.
Like several of the preceding New Moons the chart for the lunation also has an emphasis on the Eastern side of the chart (which in astrology corresponds to the left-hand side) all enclosed by the nodal axis. Eastern hemisphere emphasis hints at leadership and being in charge of one’s own destiny. The lunation chart also has a heavy Air/Water feel to it (4 planets in each element) with no planets in the Fire element suggesting that rationality and far-reaching plans may have difficulty taking into consideration the role relationships play in the big picture and understanding that our fate is often in our own hands. With only one planet in the Cardinal modality and respectively five and four in the Mutable and Fixed signs this again shows a contrasting modus operandi that has great difficulty getting started in any direction.
With the New Moon separating from Neptune, its modern dispositor and co-ruler of Pisces, and also from an exalted Venus, we might feel entitled to bask in a dream-like state but the applying sextile to Pluto in Capricorn should none-the-less remind us about the harsh reality we are steeped in as sensations and emotions deepen and take on form.
Jupiter, the traditional ruler of Pisces and co-dispositor of this lunation, is in futuristic Aquarius, and has had a recent, yet brief, encounter with Mercury, will those big ideas and plans become reality as the upcoming Mars trine Saturn might imply?
Raven Kaldera in his book “Moon Phase Astrology” calls this new Moon the “Dreamer’s Moon”. He goes on to describe this Moon as “a reflection of Neptune’s influence on the Moon resulting in people who never quite know where all their edges are, barely able to figure out what is real from what is imaginary.” On this Moon he suggests that we use the time for (day)-dreaming since our strength at this moment is now in believing that our wishes can come true.
The Sabian Symbol for 24° Pisces is: “On a small island surrounded by the vast expanse of the sea, people ae seen living in close interaction.” Indicating the need to consciously accept one’s own personal limitations in order to concentrate one’s energies and to live a centred and fulfilled life.
For the antiscion point at 7° Libra: “A woman feeding chickens and protecting them from the hawks.” Indicating the need to face the antagonism of “powers of darkness” as one attempts to feed the mind of as yet helpless and frightened apprentices.
Let’s remember: “When you reach the end of what you should know, you will be at the beginning of what you should sense.” Kahlil Gibran, Sand and Foam
