being responsible is part of the game……
On July 9th there will be a Full Moon at 17°09’ Capricorn, a Cardinal Earth sign and the sign of the Moon’s detriment where it is at its least at ease.
This Full Moon falls on the traditional 10th-4th axis, work vs home, public vs private, one parent vs another, rigidity vs flexibility etc. The persons most affected by this lunation will be those with planets or angles between 15-20° of the Cardinal signs of Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn.
Full Moons are peak energy times, “now or never” moments regarding any projects we have initiated or intentions set at the preceding New Moon fourteen days ago.
In his book “Moon Phase Astrology” author Raven Kaldera calls this the “Grandmother’s Moon” and her interest in in protecting and caring for her family. She is a ruler and this Full Moon is archetype of the Elder in all her fullness. On this Moon he suggests that we honour our Elders, alive or dead.
According to Witches and Shamans the Full Moon in July is known as the “Buck” moon. This is, in fact, the month of the year when moose and deer grow their first antlers. It’s a very masculine moon and an excellent period to work on the physical things in your life, be these bodily or just practical DIY around the house!
This is a Full Moon with a huge potential for change. The Moon in Capricorn, in its detriment, where it feels least at home and is emotionally “cold”, is conjunct Pluto, both are opposing the Sun in Cancer which is conjunct Mars (in its fall).
On one hand we have the power to really transform our emotional set-up regarding our responsibilities (to ourselves and others) and on the other selfishness and pettiness which could spoil this metamorphosis or which could encourage us to listen to our gut feelings and react on them.
This 4-planet opposition is squared by Jupiter in Libra showing us that the best way to renew our emotional bonds and take care of ourselves is through harmony, peace and justice. On the down-side, the Jupiter in Libra effect might show up as envy and high expectations of happiness without wanting to do anything practical to achieve this kind of joy.
Saturn, retrograde, the ruler of the Moon forms a Grand Fire Trine with Eris in Aries and North Node in Leo. Having the courage (Eris in Aries) to believe in ourselves (North Node in Leo) by reconnecting with our own truths (Saturn retrograde in Sagittarius) will help us in our life mission (North Node).
The Sabian symbol for the Moon at 18° Capricorn: “The Union Jack flag flies from a British warship.” Indicating the protection afforded to individuals and groups by powerful institutions in charge of maintaining order.
For the Sun at 18° Cancer: “A hen scratching the ground to find nourishment for her progeny.” Indicating the practical concern with everyday nourishment necessary to sustain one’s outreaching activities.
“Your intellect may be confused, but your emotions will never lie to you.” Roger Ebert
