• FULL MOON AND ANNULAR LUNAR ECLIPSE ON 16TH SEPTEMBER 2016

  • Lunar_eclipse_al-Biruni moon phases….time to tackle the truth

To conclude the 2016 eclipse season there will be an annular Lunar Eclipse and a Full Moon at 24°20’ Pisces on September 16th.

The last lunar eclipse at 24° Pisces was on September 16th 1997.

Whilst Solar eclipses manifest as external events in our lives, Lunar eclipses indicate more intimate, emotional changes which could of course still manifest as external events if the brooding that accompanies our innermost vicissitudes causes changes to our behaviour at an individual level. Such events are in fact brought about by our own thoughts and feelings.

Personally, I consider only the conjunction and opposition aspects (the square only if the Sun or Moon is affected in your chart) and orbs should be less than 2°.

This Eclipse (like the recent Solar one) affects the Pisces/Virgo axis or the 12-6th houses in traditional astrology. Like the Solar eclipse on 1st September this one also belongs to the Saros series 19 North* which according to Bernadette Brady heralds a

“constructive time for tackling the truth”.

Eclipses can be considered as a “spotlight” on the matters of the house axis where they occur in your chart (particularly so if personal planets or angles are involved in the eclipse degrees). It shines its light and brings to our attention those areas of our lives that need to be addressed for some reason. Dealing with these matters, once identified, could lead to a life-changing event in some cases. However, since events under eclipses are often unexpected and sudden it’s not always possible to prepare in advance but having a notion of the matters of the houses interested in the event could give us inkling as to where the disruption might come from.

Raven Kaldera in his book “Moon Phase Astrology” calls this Full Moon in Pisces

    the “Healer’s Moon”

a time, according to the author, when we might find ways to help others in need, be this on the emotional, mental or physical level. I might add that it could be a wonderful time to practice Reiki, either on ourselves or by sending healing energy to our loved or close ones. Let us not forget to show compassion and attention to our own needs during this time since we can help others only if we’re feeling good ourselves.

During the Eclipse, the Moon conjunct Chiron will oppose the Sun in Virgo and both will square Mars in Sagittarius forming the aspect known as a T-square with all the planets being in mutable signs and therefore with very volatile energy. Chiron, the wounded healer, teaches us that we learn through pain but that we heal through love, its closeness to the Moon and the square to crusading Mars in Sagittarius may indicate that it’s time to heal our religious hurting and connect our feminine (Moon) and masculine (Sun) sides in a common goal towards wholeness and righteousness.

The Sabian symbol for 25° Pisces: “A religious organization succeeds in overcoming the corrupting influence of perverted practices and materialized ideals”. Indicating the power of the Soul to intervene in the personal life and to induce necessary catharses.

For 25° Virgo: “A flag at half-mast in front of a public building”. Indicating the social acknowledgement of a job well done and a destiny fulfilled.

On this Lunar Eclipse and Full Moon:

“The mind commands the body and it obeys. The mind orders itself and meets resistance.” Saint Augustine
